I totally feel you on that last one. I don't mind when it's in-character for that to happen, or if it's part of the plot, but seriously. I have seen so many great fics ruined by sex being initiated in that way.

a fic that builds up all this great sexual tension and then the second the two main characters kiss for the first time, they immedaitely bang.

YES. Although this is a weird one because there IS a way of doing it right, and it's totally dependent on how the action is structured. I've read a lot of good fics where the whole "sexual tension gets ratcheted as far as it can go, then something happens to push it past the breaking point and it all comes pouring out at once" things happens, and it feels right. (This also depends a lot on the prior relationship between the two characters.)

But 1. it's really overused just as it is, and 2. there are so many fics where this DOESN'T happen, where the revelation is the peak of the tension arc, but the "first kiss"/acknowledgement scene comes later in the denouement after a sharp climactic peak...and they then fuck immediately anyway. It always feels so forced and unnatural and tacked on. It's really hard to describe the distinction without giving a bunch of specific examples, but UGH it irritates me.

I always snicker whenever I see 'bedroom. Now' in fic, I'm not sure I've ever seen it pulled off well and it always takes me out of the fic for a moment.

I don't mind the instant payoff so much, but I'm probably just easy to please in that regard. I will agree though that more fic could do with having the characters not just instantly jump into bed together after one kiss.

If someone in real life told me "bedroom, now!" I would probably break down laughing (or get slightly annoyed), and we probably would not get to any kind of sex that day/night because that would ruin the mood completely. I am not your child, you can't tell me to go to my bedroom...*

And I agree so much on the last part! And after reading a lot of fanfics today, it happens waaay too often!

*You know, opinions may differ, and others might like it. Only talking about myself in this instance.

I've just realized that I don't think I've ever read a comment by you where you didn't somehow manage to talk about yourself and THAT just made me break down laughing.

Okay? So you would prefer my comments to be written like this?:

"Bedroom now" is something that might be considered to be something that if said in Real Life to be so out there that he or she might laugh it off or find it insulting. Furthermore most people would agree with your last statement, Stella_ Down."

DA

lmao

it would be really amusing if you did talk like that for a day

even in real life

just talk like that and see how people react

Some people would be tempted to try that out, while others might enjoy the way they are personal in their comments. Then again others might be confused as to why exactly it is wrong to use themselves when replying and not sure how to word their comments to not include their own personal experiences and thoughts. Then again some might find that to be a stupid way of looking at things, but as we all know people are different.

I've seen a lot of "pants.off." too, and it sounds so awkward.

"also, I've said it before and I'll say it again, nothing irritates me more than a fic that builds up all this great sexual tension and then the second the two main characters kiss for the first time, they immedaitely bang. would it kill you to let the tension build up a little more???"

I'm sure it depends on the fandom and the characters, but for my OTP, there's already been plenty of build-up and UST in the canon. I am not a fan of "will they, won't they" stories, and if I'm going to read something about my OTP, I want something overtly romantic/sexual, not more hints and innuendos and long-drawn-out courtship. I can get that from the canon. I'm not saying it has to be a PWP, but I'm not reading ten chapters of the characters gazing longingly at each other and hesitating about whether or not to get together. I look to fanfic to provide me with things that the canon doesn't provide, not more of the same.

Thiiiiiiiis!

In my fandom's original canon, the main pairing didn't even get to kiss! And it's a series that stretched out for a VERY long time. In this case, fans have had an overload of UST, so there is a correspondingly high amount of PWP in fanfic because we've had more than enough build-up in canon. :p

Stuff like "Bedroom. Now," doesn't bother me because I say things like "Get your dick out."
