Good for you, OP!! Rock it. I wish I could figure out how to make my curly/wavy hair look good instead of frizzy though. I'm on the verge of giving in and straightening it...

Condition, condition, condition, and only brush it while it's wet. When it's dry, stick to finger-combing it. I haven't had any frizz problems since I started doing that.

AYRT: Thanks for replying but I do all that. Still incredibly frizzy. I'm considering some form of deep repairing conditioning at a salon... If that doesn't help, I'm at a loss.

Get a good leave in conditioner, like It's a 10. Keratin shampoo and conditioner is also good, but don't use it every wash; just throw it into your wash and conditioning cycle about once every 5 washes. You can adjust how often if your normal stuff overrides the keratin's effectiveness more or less frequently. And never use a hairbrush on curly hair! Stick to finger combing as much as possible and use a detangler comb only if you really need it.

AYRT: Thanks for the tips! We don't have that brand of leave-in here, but I already have a keratin shampoo and didn't know about the frequency thing. I haven't brushed my hair in 10 years - I used to only finger comb it but now I use a wooden comb after washing it because it supposedly helps with frizz.

even if you're not black, i would definitely check out black haircare forums for some tips on how to manage curls! there are a ton of great products out there and a lot of natural hair forums can help you figure out your curl pattern type and recommend good products that will suit your hair best. good luck nonny! :)

Thank you! But yes, that's part of my problem. Most of the online places are in English and we don't have any of those products here in my country. If I try the local blogs, they're for black haircare and while some of the tips are great, others and the products don't help me at all.

How often are you shampooing? Because I tried everything and only got some success when I just stopped using shampoo at all. Seriously, switch to water soluble products and stop stripping your hair with cleanser (just scrub your scalp thoroughly with your fingertips while spreading conditioner) and you might see a difference. Investing in a microfiber hair towel to just scrunch water out (comb first while sopping wet) could help to. Seriously, the difference for me was STARK - I went from wild frizz to easy, shiny ringlets rapidly. I use a non-sulfate clarifying cleanser MAYBE once a month and have a never been happier.

I have really curly (and long) hair, so what works for me is combing it while it's wet and with conditioner. After that, applying a little bit of water and letting the hair conditioner do its magic. After wash, I use Pantene Pro-V cream for curls and some silicon to keep it down. Depending on how big the your curls are, you can shape them with your fingers.

I do this thing where I shape four or five really thick curls with my fingers (after applying the cream and while it's wet, that is), and let them be until they are completely dry. After that, I split the curls into as many as I want.

I don't touch my hair at all until the next wash (3 or 4 days later because effort), so no combing or anything. That will only ruin your curls. ;(

I also find that only washing it (and by this I mean using shampoo) every three or four days cuts down on how dry/frizzy my hair gets too. I still get it wet in the shower and put in a tiny dab of smoother/leave-in conditioner every day, but I don't wash it.

It'll probably take a bit for your hair to get used to it (ie it might look a little limp/oily initially) but I found that my hair adjusted pretty quickly to not being dried out daily from shampoo.

One of my exes has extremely curly hair. The trick that he found worked was to use hairspray immediately after showering, while his hair was still wet. Instead of frizzing up, it would come out in beautiful almost-Grecian ringlets. As I recall, he didn't have to use a lot. Might be worth a try?
