He starts with Progresso chicken and rice soup--well, actually, he starts with 2/3 cup of rice, cooked in 3 cups of broth, and when the rice is done, he adds two cans of chicken rice soup and, maybe, some diced cooked chicken. Then he juices a couple of lemons (maybe more, if they're not very juicy) and separates two eggs.
We always beat the egg whites to the soft-peak stage, then add the yolks; you probably don't have to make two steps of it, but that's how we've always done it. Then, slowly, add the lemon juice--and even more slowly, two cups of broth. The idea is to temper the eggs so they don't curdle when you add them to the pot and fold them in, which is what you do next, and then you cook it over very, very low heat until it is thick and custardy.
