Eh, I don't mind it. He's a nice dude who respects his fans and on the rare occasion he's made a gaffe, he actually made a sincere apology (I honestly don't even remember what the post that got removed said anymore). It doesn't really wig me out me with actors interact with their fans because I've never bothered trying to pretend that they weren't aware of their fandom. It's like some people think they can't use the internet or something

Yeah, actors are people and are perfectly capable of being fannish and geeking out over things and getting star-struck over other actors. Some may have even been in fandom before becoming actors or becoming famous. Even those who aren't inclined towards fandom may still be capable of understanding how fandom works and not getting super shocked/offended/scandalized/confused over the more extreme elements.

I don't think it's so much the idea that they can't use it or find fandom stuff, but this image that they purposely avoid it? I think most people just assume they hire interns or w/e to scour the internet for anything important, or that they know about it in general but try to stay away. So it's not so much a matter of "they can't ever see this thing!" but rather "they probably won't go looking for this thing". (That said, I cannot comprehend the idea of tweeting your favorite actors/showrunners with creepy fanfic/fanart/shippy questions, so... no idea about that)

This comment has a lot of words for not saying very much. /slinks off

Aw, but actors who like their fandoms are fun! I probably wouldn't be into SPN if not for the insanity of Misha Collins!

Orlando Jones seems like a very cool, laid-back guy, and Sleepy Hollow fandom is very pleasant and wank-free (from what I've seen), so why not embrace the fourth-wall breakage?

Can't stand the way he fuels the ship wars.

Does he? Everything I've seen of him (as someone not into Sleepy Hollow) is all "no ship wars, multiple ships in this harbour, shipping doesn't make you sexist or racist". I wouldn't say I'm a fan but I appreciate the sentiment.

He doesn't fuel ship wars in Sleepy Hollow, he fuels ship wars in Supernatural which is way more hilarious!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-19 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
He is hilarious!

ship wars in spn don't need outside fuel!!
I can only imagine this was fury that he awarded Destiel the coveted "recognition from an actor in another tv show"...

(Anonymous) 2014-01-18 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Does he? Or is it a case of rabid shippers reading waaaaay too much into every single thing and blowing it out of proportion? My impression was that it was the latter.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-18 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember his whole Destiel shtick?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-19 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
na

Well, as long as it was Destiel I guess. They probably deserve whatever they get

He is an awesome, awesome, awesome guy. I love his fandom adventures!

THERE IS NOT FORTH WALL IN REAL LIFE!

Characters are the only ones who can ignore a forth wall, actors have no forth wall.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-19 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I don't even know why that's an objection.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-19 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
I was really trying to figure that out.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-19 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
The fourth wall has been used as a slang term for the separation between creators and fans for at least a few years now. I'm pretty sure people who use it that way are aware of the distinction.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-19 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. News to me.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
um wow. in fact. the etymology of the term is from the fourth wall of the stage dividing the actors from the audience. so when the actor breaks character and speaks to the audience, that's breaking the fourth wall. so this is a pretty apt usage.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-19 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Same here, OP. It's kind of embarrassing, even if the art/fic is about the characters, not them.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-19 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's so cringeworthy for me. But I don't think it's him interacting with fandom so much as it is him knowing how stupidly wanky this fandom can be.
