Sometimes I kind of wish I could do that. In my head, there is always a distinct difference between my headcanon and the actual canon - probably because I am vehemently against Death of the Author anywhere but in formal, academic works (and even in these it should never be applied sweepingly). I feel like the original source material=authorial intent, to the point where I automatically regard all the extra information provided by the creator as canon.

So, good for you.

Something I've always been curious about, with canon "purists" who disregard other information-- what do you do with things like deleted scenes and the like that end up being cut for time, or to make it under a certain rating, or because the studio/network/whathaveyou insists on it?

I accept it as alternate canon! I love this kind of things. Then I can have two equally valid storylines in my head (okay, maybe one of them is a little more valid than the other; it depends on the creators' motives for cutting the scene out. If they were forced to do it, it's as valid as the end result. If they did it willingly for the purpose of improving the work, it has much less validity) and switch between them however I please.
