Relax, it's...fiction.

We all have certain things we can't get over, but it's not like there are real people suffering the consequences right now.

It...really depends on your world view. Some people prefer a beautiful lie over an unpleasant truth.

Telling people to relax because it's fiction is really annoying. I'm sure the OP was not unaware that the movie isn't real. That's really not the point.

Relax, it's... fiction.

Isn't the whole point of fandom to obsess over fictional things?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Relax, it's fiction"? What are you even doing in here?

I haven't seen it since it first came out but I didn't see it like that at all. I thought it was completely charming. I need to watch it again.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't watched Amelie for years. I didn't interpret it like you did, but I definitely was not a fan and thought she was a bit delusional and manipulative as well as manic pixie dream girlish. And otherwise the movie wasn't even particularly memorable for me.

Also, I'm Australian, and a few years back our public TV station ran a poll of Australia's Top 100 movies and an aired a countdown special for it. Amelie won. It is apparently Australia's favourite film ever. Ugh. I don't think I will ever get over it.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Lol what? Which TV station was this?

/Australian

rec

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
watch "He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not" by the same actress, I bet it would be satisfying for you

Re: rec

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
I used to have those two movie confused (watched them both back to back while drunk with chatty friends) and was always very, very confused when people said Amelie was a sweet movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you. Amelie is creepy as fuck. And how creepy aren't my friends for finding her adorable? :E

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
because the actress is adorable

[personal profile] escriboconundedo 2014-01-28 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
i have never seen this movie, but now i kind of want to, and i want to go into it with this interpretation in mind.

i duuno, i guess i'm fuvked up.

Yeah. My sentiments exactly, OP.

I had the same problem with Marley and Me. My brain kept going "haha hi stupid book about how to be a completely crappy dog owner". Everyone else loved this stuff :/

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
I never watched this movie because it looked like one of those weird, trying-too-hard-to-be-sweet, creepy movies. Still don't know if I'm missing anything.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
well, at least in Marley and Me they tried to take the dog to obedience classes.

Ah, this is that movie I've never gotten around to watching. Ever. I was going to rent it many years ago at a Blockbuster, but my sister told me I wasn't allowed because all French movies had ladies with their tits out, and I'd be a pervert for watching it. What the hell was up with her stink-on for movies she'd never even watched, eh?

Anyways, I'm gonna go find a copy and watch it with your headcanon. Thanks, OP!

I am probably the only person in this world who hates this movie with a passion.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, you're not. All my friends love it though, which can be really annoying when the topic comes up. (Though it doesn't come up all that often, thank god.)

I didn't finish it, but I agree it got hyped up to be so charming when I found it a little dark too.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-28 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
See, this interpretation makes sense to me because I remember seeing the cover as a child and thinking it was probably a scary movie.

(...I mean, come on. To a kid that looks freaky)

But the shop assistant has a friend now to back him up, and the owner was revealed as abusive in front of his customers.

So am I the only one that thinks this is a movie where "children's book/movie logic" simply needs to be applied? Not because it's a children's movie, but sometimes lighthearted fantasies are just meant to be taken as lighthearted fantasies. I think treatment of the "bad guy" is an excellent example for that, because consequence-free comeuppance is a very common topic in these kind of stories.

I got through about thirty minutes of this movie. It was just so *boring*. She was weird and odd in a not-fun way and just too 'pwecious'. Did not like.

Amelie is one creepy fuck, and I hated the way the film glorified her.
