a low-level of unthinking prejudice/stereotypes against southerners. Not a big worry or something that actively offends me, but I do have to sigh and roll my eyes at the 'funny' comments about "you have paved roads??" or "so are you married to your cousin??" or "so you hate black people, right??"

maybe if you'd stop celebrating the confederacy

Maybe if you'd stop sticking your noise in the air you'd notice the vast majority don't.

dude, I'm southern. I've been southern since the day I was born. I have a huge southern family. and we all think the confederacy stuff is creepy as hell.

a) there's the condescension about a stereotype!1

b) I don't celebrate it but, maaaan, the flag is so cool. Just from like an aesthetic point of view it's so much better than the US flag.

Thiiiiiis, though it's a bit bigger than trivial for me since I live in a city with a very very large number of northern transplants. So I get this shoot a lot.

Bonus points if it turns out they're illegally carrying a gun and justify it with "but everyone does it here!"

People pull that shit? That is fucked up. I would report them to the police.

Oh yeah. Multiple people have - and its always...interesting to find out. Oddly enough, they're all from outside the south (or the ones I've met anyways).

Re: reporting them, when I can I do - problem is I don't asphalts have all the info.

I love your autocorrect.

Well they're dicks and they deserve the fine. Stupid heads.

Yeah, I spent about five years living in Montgomery, Alabama, and the hateful stereotypes people assume were not the reality I experienced. Of course, my mom, who lived there for a year or two in the mid-50s when she was four assumes it's still just like it was then.

yeah, the times they are a changin'. My grandmother was born in the south and she IS kinda racist--like never vitriolic or cruel or 'why are those people here', but she can't talk about the subject of race and she would be super upset if I dated a non-white guy--but the newer generations are mostly beyond that. My grandma remembers her daddy guarding the door during race riots and her grandmama telling stories about the yankee army burning and looting and raping their way across the south. It's dumb to pretend that stuff didn't happen, but also dumb for people to assume nothing's changed.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel, too.
