The tiny irritating things

[personal profile] caerbannog 2014-01-29 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
The ones you find mild annoyance over~?

For me, today, it's people constantly trying to hitch me up with friends or randoms or whathaveyou, no matter how often I say I'm not interested right now.

pls stop.

phrases like "money can't buy happiness" and "there's nothing standing between you and your dreams but yourself" or other such motivational/inspirational quotes. My tumblr feed has been overrun with them the past couple days and it annoys me to no end. Because no, money could in fact buy me quite a bit of happiness right now. And there is a lot of things stopping me from my dreams - most of them money related.

People who say that need to punch themselves in the face. It's no different from the bootstraps argument.

Ah agreed, vainly optimistic but uh I imagine money would buy most people ease of mind, if not happiness.

Fandom related: There's this one thing that has like... A grand total of 1 fics for it and I wish there were more.

RL: I have a classmate who seems to think no one is as smart as she is (thankfully not in a horrible "I'm better than you way)... And really needs to learn that something's just aren't her business/when to shut her mouth.

A friend from high school called to see if I would pick him up at a bus stop in a city an hour away and drive him to our hometown which is an hour in the opposite direction from where I live.

It'll be nice to catch up, whether it's just for two hours on the road (of four for me) or actual non-driving time activities -- as long as we don't talk about politics or religion -- but I told him when we were on the phone that he needed to send me the details of where he needs picked up, because my phone was on the charger and I didn't have anything handy nearby to write with. He said he'd text or email or facebook.

It's been two days and he's done none of those things. So, I know the time and that it's "a bus station somewhere downtown." Guess I'll find it on my own and not give a shit if I'm late.

a low-level of unthinking prejudice/stereotypes against southerners. Not a big worry or something that actively offends me, but I do have to sigh and roll my eyes at the 'funny' comments about "you have paved roads??" or "so are you married to your cousin??" or "so you hate black people, right??"

It doesn't bother me that people like things I don't like, but I get annoyed when something floods fandom and overshadows everything else.

Also, the trend of tags being used for useless information. No one finds "no, really, guys, this is about popsicles" useful.

Crossovers being tossed in with the rest of a fandom's fics on AO3. My fandom doesn't have many fics to begin with and when half the front page is crossovers, I give up on finding anything to read.

I would be able to finish a dress tonight for my next cosplay, except that I have looked all over the house and don't have any good way to fasten it. Out of snaps except the sew-on kind that have a tendency to pop off. No spare zippers because I don't tend to buy extras. I do have a few packages of Velcro, one even unopened... but all black, and the dress is white. :P And I can't glue on the accents until I sew on (or in the case of snaps, hammer on) the fastenings they'll be hiding.

And you know, I could go out and get something, except that today has been windy and the high was 0. Fahrenheit. And that was a few hours ago and it's not that "warm" anymore.

My roommate puts our pots and pans in the dishwater to wash, whereas I like to scrub them incase I need to use them before the next wash goes through. Also it saves room for more dishes.

My sister moved the lamp and table which is usually to the right of where I sit to the left of where I usually sit and now it's throwing me off because the light's coming from the wrong side and irritating me. Also, due to where the table was, the light used to be coming from slightly behind me and now it's off to the front-left.

I hate when relatives ask me about my lack of a love life. I just transferred jobs and the first thing my great-aunt asks is if there are any cute guys there. Seriously, I'm not looking at my coworkers! (I work in a small professional office, it's frowned upon)

Re: The tiny irritating things (stupid classmates)

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-01-29 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not even a teacher and I want to know why people don't study and complain about their grades.

Like, dude, you talk about this excellent movie marathon or some video game move you did last weekend, leaving no room for studying, and you're surprised that you have no idea what's going on in class or that you have a low grade on the test?

It's just an awareness thing. I know a lot of people who don't/can't study enough because of work, volunteering, internships, medical problems, family obligations, etc. - that makes sense, and they usually just complain about not having enough time to study, or at least their complaints about a teacher giving out too much homework make sense.

It's my classmates who have plenty of free time and still choose to ignore their studies. Specifically the ones who get all indignant about their low grades. (I know people who ignore their studies, get low grades and don't really care, and I tend to just shrug them off. Their wasted money.) But if you are going to not do your home, ignore your studying, and spend all weekend playing video games without even pulling the reading out of your bag? Shut up, the class isn't hard and the teacher doesn't have it out for you, you're just an idiot.

First off, as a dachshund owner I am legally obligated to tell you that that gif is just plain adorable.

Anyway, it always kind of annoys me when someone tells me I should have already "grown out of" one of my hobbies, especially if they're talking about my horse or my love of picking my hair color out of a crayon box. It's like, fuck you, if I want to dye my hair to match my horse's halter then that's my own damn business.

People commenting on how 'tired' or 'thin' or 'unwell' I look. Like I don't own a mirror.

Yes I look tired. On work day-nights I average four hours of sleep if I'm lucky. Sometimes an hour or less. This is because I am always in pain. On top of that, the less sleep I get, the more pain I'm usually in, which makes it continue.

I don't need you to remind me I look like shit, thank you. Also, I dropped about fifty pounds when trying to get my medications sorted out (finding a med that helped my pain without making me so nauseated that even water made me want to throw up), and I've never gained it back.

Commenting on my weight when you work with me and have for seven years and know exactly why I lost so much so quickly just makes you stupid or ridiculously insensitive. Stop it. :|

Explaining to my friends that no, I'm not tone policing, they really are being unnecessarily abrasive to people they're arguing with. You know perfectly well that confrontation of any kind shuts them down and that's why you haven't gotten anywhere in four pages of huge posts. It's obvious you're just looking for a way to show everyone how Progressive and Socially Aware you are.

ps stop being the classic example of white people talking over PoC on cultural appropriation okay thanks

I had this phase where I wore only black for a time. That was when I was 14/15 -16/17. I'm now 27 and have started wearing different colours again over 10 years ago. Yet people who've known me for a while still act like it's the newest, most amazing thing when they see me wearing something not-black. (as I do about every day).
