That sucks, dude.

For me? People complimenting me or making jokes about my weight. Yes, I know, I'm small. That's why I'm seeing a doctor about it. Please shush.

Also my nail polish won't stay on and I put it on yesterday. Sad face.

The nail polish or the weight thing or both?

Re: The tiny irritating things

(Anonymous) 2014-01-29 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, both. But I was mainly thinking about the nail polish thing.

I am sad about how cheap this mail polish I have is. It is chipping off as we speak and I put four layers, plus a clear coat.

Re: The tiny irritating things

(Anonymous) 2014-01-29 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
That many layers of clear might actually be making it worse. At least, the I've always found putting more than couple usually ends up with all of it coming off really easily. Then again, it could just be I had a *really* fail-y bottle or something.

It was one layer of clear. Four of color because it was really hard to see the color.

And normally for me the more clear I put on the longer it lasts.

That's no good. However will you go to battle with your mail all unpolished like that?

People can be such dicks about weight; idgi. It's rude and childish.

The nail polish thing is the worst! Do you use a base coat and a top coat? Those help a lot. Depending on the brand of polish sometimes I get a weeks worth of wear without TOO many chips. (Zoya and Wet and Wild Megalast are both fantastic in terms of staying power, but of course it depends per person too.)

Yup.

I'm not a polish queen. I do not understand base coat and top coat. All I do is put the same color on multiple times. Then I cover it with a clear coat.

I generally get a week out of my normal stuff. But this lasted less than a day.

A week is good though! Not many polishes will last longer than a week. Base coat and top coat are pretty simple though; you just apply and wait, the same as polish. I generally use two coats of polish in-between, but some weaker colors need three coats to look right.

Some brands (and individual colors, even) are just worst than others. :(

Oh I just do that with polish. What do you use as a base coat? The clear stuff?

This is what I use as a base coat. (Do you have a Sally's Beauty Supply? That's where I get mine.)

Technically it's a hardener, but it works well as a base coat too. The same brand has an 'all in one' polish that you can use as a base and top coat, but I typically use the hardener for the base coat, put two (or three, if it's an extremely weak color) coats of color, then the all in one as a top coat. If you have any problems with your nails (or just want to keep them looking pretty) then hardeners are excellent.

Though, I've tried half a dozen brands of base coat and top coats, and right now this is the one I'm using; I like it quite a bit. OPI is pretty good too though, and I THINK it's a bit cheaper.

(Although, if your polish already stays you might not want to go to the extra effort. And expense. This shit be expensive...)

I never even heard of this stuff before. I just get my polish from Target. Thanks for the tip.

Bleh people are rude, screw them.

All nail polish bottles lie about them lasting 7-days without chipping, ALL OF THEM. I have a really nice blue nail polish that never lasts a day before chipping and it aggravates me because it's pretty and I want to wear it ffs.

So true. Every polish I've tried chips at least a bit, and most don't last a week (or even half a week!) without major wear.

One of my favorite nail polish colors is this beautiful teal but it chips horribly and is barely worth wearing because of it. It's sad.

Man you're lucky if you get more than half a week with no chips, I have one polish that actually managed a full week with no chips and I was so happy, wore it again: chipped in two days. The first time was a fluke!

Nail polish can be so finicky and disappointing! When I find a brand I like I try to stick with it because they tend to be a bit more reliable, but you never know how long the polish will last; sometimes you just get unlucky.

(Though, I paint my toenails too and those last much, much longer. I usually only paint those every couple months, and by the time I get around to repainting them there's still a bit of polish on.)

I try to stick with the same brands but I really dislike how tiny the nail polish bottles have gotten yet cost around £6 for something that looks like would only last a couple of applications. Yet the cheap stuff chips horribly in a day. :/

Re: The tiny irritating things

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-01-29 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
In my experience it really depends on the brand. Some of the cheapest polishes I own ($2, $3) last longer than the more expensive stuff ($5, $11). Wet n Wild tends to be really good, especially the megalast line, and I seem to recall Finger Paints and even Sinful Colors being pretty good. There's this (hard to find, I believe) brand called Confetti that's cheap and once lasted two weeks with next to no chips. However every Milani I own chips terribly day one and though some of my favorite colors are China Glaze, the quality can be very hit and miss. Zoya tends to be fantastic but my last mani didn't last a couple days without chipping; it was very disappointing.

Damn difficult nail polish...

YYEEESSSSS. I know how you feel. I just wanna look nice and keep my nails long because they wouldn't last without polish. They're too long at this point.
