i think steam is really great and super convenient but i steer clear of the forums. i've asked a few questions myself and was met with kindness but i definitely believe you. i think that's less an issues with the steam community and more an issue with nerdy ass gamer dudes wanting to find something to be on top of in life so they might as well be Supreme Geek Snob. most of the people i'm friends with on steam are pretty poor, we all wait for steam sales. granted our computers are decent but money being tight doesn't seem to be a rarity in my experience, so you aren't alone and i don't see why people who shell out a lot of cash to spruce up their specs would put you down for not having that same luxury.

in the future - and maybe this is obvious - i'd suggest googling any issues you have, as most of them were probably discussed somewhere. it'll save you the trouble of waiting for an answer and potentially dealing with assholes. if you don't yield any good or helpful results then maybe asking on a different forum would be beneficial.

I've gotten this impression from many of the nerdy people I've encountered (specifically the ones who are holier-than-thou, or like to bully others.) Like they got bullied at school or have spent their whole life feeling inferior to others, so they want to be "top dog" in at least some area of their lives.

It's kind of sad, really.
