I didn't want to suggest this before now, but how would everybody feel about asking case, en masse, to stop doing these trigger secrets all together? They kinds ruin my Friday, and I just wish he'd relegate them all to the failbar.

But they're still legit secrets. You needn't look at them, he does put up trigger warnings after all.
starphotographs: I like him. He kind of looks and acts like one of my characters. (I did not know this when I started liking him!) (Victor (...>:|))

This. And "failing" secrets for being offensive is a step in a rather unsavory direction that I'd rather this community not pursue, thanks. :/

(...Keep in mind that I've been here since the beginning of all time and space, so I remember when the secrets were *gasp!* mixed up all willy-nilly!)

I've lost most of my memories of the days when f!s had dozens of secrets every day - thanks for bringing them back! There is some wank from back there that will never stop haunting me ...

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 01:10 am (UTC)(link)

Seriously, OP, if you are getting triggered by pictures and words on the Internet, maybe it's time to talk to a therapist about that, or about finding some way to fix that. Because if you can't even handle pictures and words on the Internet, how are you able to function in your daily life? Where real people can and do spew hate and vitriol to others' faces quite regularly.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
How about you just... scroll past the trigger section?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
what do you think is worse for people with triggers, knowing friday will have triggery things at the bottom of the post along with regular secrets or finding a triggery secret at random throughout the week? random makes no sense

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest I'd be happier if they were dropped altogether, but I think that's asking too much. I was thinking where we have NS NF etc, there could be a section for people who really need triggery material called "Trigger" and you'd have to actively click on it each day, meaning that EVERYDAY people who have triggers are free from them without having to scroll. Also to everyone saying "Just scroll past them" sometimes you just can't scroll fast enough and it can be really upsetting.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
there's an easy trick for that. dont look at the post itself, go straight to the bottom with the scroll bar at the right then go through the comments only, clicking links as you go. if something is marked triggery don't click it. issue resolved

It seems to be working just fine the way it is and to be honest, I don't like the tone of these comments talking about "people who have triggers". We are all capable of speaking up for ourselves if there's any problem, thank you. :)

There's a big red warning label right before the triggery secrets start. When you hit that, locate the "End" key on your keyboard to jump directly to the bottom of the page, and then scroll up until you reach the beginning of the comments section. Magically, you will have avoided the trigger section in its entirety.

meaning that EVERYDAY people who have triggers are free from them without having to scroll.

Why is having to scroll such a big chore?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
The reason they're on Friday is so you can skip them en masse.

Like, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I sincerely think it's better this way where you can just skip them instead of having little nuggets of terrible split up all over the week.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Good idea, let's not post every single secret that offends, triggers or upsets someone!
starphotographs: ...I'm not that bad, though. And I don't even light things on fire! Well, not regularly... (Izaya (devious))

[personal profile] starphotographs 2014-02-01 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
God, they wouldn't even be secrets anymore.

"Shh... Listen closely... OMG THE GUY FROM THE SHOW HAS A REALLY NICE HAT! PLZ KEEP MY SEEKRIT!! :("

What the fuck would even be the point? :/

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! I agree so much. It really is a very slippery slope once you start not allowing triggery secrets. I mean, where does it end? What is a trigger and what isn't?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, being an asshole is so much more important than keeping people safe.

If you can't stop yourself from reading labeled secrets that you know will trigger you or whatever, maybe you aren't old enough to use the internet.

Except they're already all together at the bottom and very clearly labeled. stop reading when you get to that section.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
But that would (a) be reasonable and (b) require OP to do something.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
How about no.

Would putting the trigger secrets behind a cut like the porny ones be an acceptable compromise?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-01 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but no. They're very clearly marked so that people who don't want to read them don't have to. If you feel this strongly about them, why do you read them? You get to make that choice for yourself; you shouldn't get to make that choice for everyone else.
