Woah, hang on, what do you mean that you can't say that Eren/Levi has no canon basis? Are there people honestly saying that it's 'almost canon' or that there's 'evidence' for it in the canon and will yell at you if you say otherwise?

Just try telling an Ereri shipper that you don't think there really has yet been in canon a developed mutual relationship of serious love and trust between Eren and Levi and they will dogpile you with 'canon evidence' of how you're wrong.

I've never run into this? The closest I've seen is when someone personally went after an artist for drawing them. The artist's response was "I don't care."

I've also never seen anyone claim 'evidence' for the pairing. They go crazy over official art, and make jokes about any panel that features both of them, but I don't think anyone has tried to say that there's anything in canon that supports it. I don't even think they've gone after anyone who didn't post in the pairing-specific tag. People on here just tend to take things a bit too seriously. Or maybe that's a joke I'm not getting.

according to nearly every Ereri shipper I've talked to, things like Levi volunteering to protect Eren, or calling his squad off Eren when Eren grew his titan arm, are all explicit canon evidence that Levi trusts Eren, wants to take care of him, and is protective of him. I've even seen some ereri fans on tumblr say that because Levi was sitting on Eren's bed in the last chapter, it's complete evidence that Eren and Levi are totally comfortable around each other, and into each other. I've also seen arguments that no one has been able to understand Eren like Levi has.
I see this all the time. And if you argue with them, they just tell you that you're just trying to hate on their ship, and start a fight. No, I'm not trying to discredit the ship. Ship Ereri all you like. Nothing against it. But I just do. not. see canon evidence that Eren and Levi have any kind of love and trust thing going on
Am I crazy? Am I wrong???

I mean obviously there's some kind of trust between them, since they're on the same side, and Levi is Eren's squad leader and all that. But I still don't think their relationship has developed into anything you could argue is 'close'

They definitely trust each other, that is not really debatable even what was shown in the series. But I don't think any average Ereri shipper think that they are OH SO IN LOVE is totally canon seriously.

Plus some will be defensive, especially the tag has been trolled badly to hell for several weeks. As someone upthread said, it's simultaneously the most popular and the most hated ship in the fandom.

No, like I said, obviously they trust each other; it's not like they're suspicious or wary of each other. But I don't think their relationship has developed into anything close or 'trusting'. To me their relationship in canon still seems formal and distant?
And I didn't mean to imply that any Ereri shipper thinks it's canon that they're 'IN LOVE', but they get offended when you don't think their canon relationship is as understanding, mutual, and close as they think it is

Oh man. I hate when a new chapter comes out and Levi and Eren show up in the same panel 'OMG THEIR ELBOWS ARE TOUCHING' or adding fake dialogue like, "STFU MIKASA EREN IS SLEEPING IN MY BED TONIGHT".

And no, I didn't make either of those up they were both posts that got 1000+ notes on tumblr -_-

And yeah some Ereri fans take an inch a make a mile out of it. All shippers do, but you notice it a lot more with Ereri. I don't think anything Levi does is because he ~cares~ about Eren. It's just that Eren is literally humanities last hope against the titans and as Levi is humanities strongest soldier he's in the best position to oversee him. We know Levi hates how countless of his comrades die in vain, so he wants humanity to be victorious in the end.

Their relationship is, at best, strictly professional. There is no spark or passion. Eren fears/respects Levi and Levi babysits Eren so that humanities stands a chance in hell. Going by canon they have the most boring and dull dynamic.

I actually like their mentor/pupil dynamic a lot but it's become my NOTP because of the crazy shippers. D:
