You know 80% of the Yumikuri 'shippers' are just fangirls trying to get their 'social justice' points by liking the lesbian pairing, and it's why the pairing is so popular. /bitter yumikuri shipper who can't actually find much of an active fanbase for it

I don't watch this anime but from what I've seen, those two dudes have a nice power imbalance, right? I would probably ship them.

Yep; Levi is Eren's captain (I'm not sure what rank Eren is). And even though Eren can essentially turn into a giant (his giant form is 15 meters, which is about 50 feet):
1) he would never use his power to try to do anything bad to Levi or any of his other fellow soldiers, and
2) Even with Eren at giant size, Levi could still kick his ass.

Eh, I didn't really get this impression for Ymir and Krista ?
I mean I was already reading the manga something like a year before the anime and fandom boom happened and they had some fans at that time, then with the Castle Utgard part, the pairing started getting even more love and became popular because we had more material about them.

So yeah they have been my OTP for a while for a lot of other reasons than popularity and I think that's the case for a lot of people but maybe I don't see the bigger picture because I admit I tend to stay in my little corner ^^"

Hmm, I think it depends where you hang out, OP because pretty much all my fandom friends hate ereri and like yumikuri. I've made posts before how I think ereri is dumb, and I've never lost tumblr followers.

From what I've seen, a lot of ereri fans tend to be on the younger side. Older users tend to be more invested in eruri and jeanmarco from what I've seen.

It's pretty much the opposite for me.
My friends love Ereri and dislike Yumikuri, but I love Yumekiri and hate Ereri... I should find new friends in this fandom, I know.

I dunno how "true" the Yumikuri fans are who ship it alongside Eren/Levi, but one thing that generally annoys me about AO3 and frustrates me about SNK fandom in particular is that people tag their fics with multiple ships, even if the focus is Eren/Levi and the other ships barely get a mention.

I hate looking for say, Armin/Jean and mostly finding Eren/Levi where A/J is a side ship. Yumikuri has it even worse because it's a side ship for like EVERY SNK ship fic.

I guess other than popularity, people probably tag things this way because some people can't stand ship XY even if it is only mentioned in one sentence, but overall, I still wish that people only tagged their fics with ships and characters that the story actually focuses on. I feel like this would alleviate at least a bit of fandom frustration.

Huh, is there that big of an overlap between Eren/Levi and Ymir/Krista shippers? In my experience I've seen more overlap between Reiner/Bertolt and Ymir/Krista shippers. Then again I don't hang on Tumblr much nowadays so IDK how it's like there now.

I ship Eren/Levi but don't ship Krista/Ymir, so different strokes.
I'm aware that my ship will never be canon (OBVIOUSLY)and that yours likely will be(well, it's halfway there already).
I mainly just want Levi to mentor Eren a bit and to not die. :/

I never go into the Ereri tag, though. I've never seen so much trolling in one tag.

Also, anime fandoms need to learn what lol-tags are and use them. Then everyone would be much happier.

I ship Eren/Jean and Sasha/Christa so I'm basically alone in the world. 8( But agreed that the overlap is weird, and someone mentioned that there's a good chunk of fans that only ship Ymir/Christa to fill out their SJ bingo cards, so that's a frustrating position to be in. What? People talk shit about Eren x Levi all the time. It's the most talked about ship in the ship hate tag on tumblr. It's popular but it's also most hated. And yeah, they don't have a good canon basis or chemistry so I don't see what's wrong with openly hating it. I noticed a lot of people I follow on tumblr hate it and some prominent SnK artist it's the only pairing they refuse to draw or write... so I don't know where you think you'd get shit for hating it.

Eren/Levi is my first and only NOTP. It's barely a step above a crack pairing, and while there's nothing wrong with crack pairings in general, how the fuck did one become the most popular SnK pairing??

I just checked. 1823/5784 SnK fics on Ao3 feature Eren/Levi. ALMOST A FUCKING THIRD WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK IS THIS FANDOM SMOKING HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? It's almost unavoidable.

It would be more understandable if there weren't much material for shippers in SnK but there's tonnes. Eren/Armin alone has about 500x as much canon support as Eren/Levi if you're in to hot dudes fucking. I don't even really ship them (I don't really ship anything in SnK) but come on people it's right there what's stopping you?

there's as much backlash to eren/levi that it definitely isn't the pairing everyone loves or you're out of the fandom. though of course if the only people you're looking at are teenage girls on tumblr, i can see why you think that opinion makes you oppressed.

I haven't seen much overlap with Eren x Levi and Ymir x Krista really. Yumikuri is actually kinda accepted as canon even by a lot of nonshippers, while EreRi remains pretty much crack.

Levi's massive popularity tends to inflate his pairings popularity, even if there is little canon basis. Eren is the easiest to ship him off too because he's the main character and Levi is the most popular character with fangirls and fujioshi.

JeanxMarco and YumiKuri are also popular pairings but they don't get much hate. Lots of people do criticize or hate EreRi. Unless you had a bad run in with some obsessive shippers, I hardly think it's an unpopular opinion to not like EreRi.
