I'm obviously socially lacking, but what are the problems with each of those tweets? Cause I don't get it.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I just read them all as snarky commentary and they seemed no worse than anything else I read anywhere else on the Internet.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. Apparently snark is not allowed.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not allowed if you're famous, dontyaknow. SWF (snarking while famous) means that you are the worst thing to ever happen on this planet.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
snark
noun
Combination of "snide" and "remark". Sarcastic comment(s).

He's publicly making sarcastic comments that reveal what he thinks is a standard opinion. I think his opinions reveal that he's a dick. I think a lot of people with similar opinions are dicks. It's not unfair or complicated.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't think, "it's not worse than anything else on the Internet" is the benchmark we should be shooting for, here.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem is that Jared Padalecki tweeted them, really. People have a real hateboner for him, usually because he a) isn't Jensen Ackles, and b) fucks with Misha Collins for entertainment.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
lol keep telling yourself that

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care that he isn't Jensen Ackles, and I really do not care that he fucks with Misha Collins for entertainment.

However, I did kind of think he was a nice, goofy guy from what I've seen and heard of him, and I have to admit that the tweets about AJ and PSH seem really unkind. So it's disappointing, anyway.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, who gives a shit. A fucktwit is a fucktwit.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Of you honestly see no problem with the first tweet then you ARE socially lacking.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
First one about Angie? I'm bad at knowing celeb stuff so I couldn't say if she actually has anorexia or is just constantly getting gossiped about having it... Depending on what Jared believes he's either encouraging gossip and body policing or he's mocking someone with anorexia for getting closer toward a healthier body weight. First one is asshole, second is malicious asshole.

Second one I'm sorely missing context, for all I know aliciasilv actually did something to justify that snark.

Third is pretty stupid "HRRR YOU'RE NOT A MANLY MAN GET OUT OF MY FOOTBALL". I'd roll my eyes at it before getting mad, but I still think it's dumb.

Fourth is, as described elsewhere in thread, insensitive to those mourning the death.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-09 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
See, for the first one I thought he was making fun of the people who DO gossip about that stuff, and the whole Hollywood body image in general. "Can't see her ribs? SHE MUST BE FAT" is the sort of yo-yo attitude a lot of reports tend to take. I didn't think it had anything to do with her at all.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I completely read it as mocking her. And I think it's pretty hard to NOT make it about her when you attach her name to your tweet.

I think it's more like "Celebrity gets a twitter account - world finds out they're an asshat."

ayrt

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I looked back and now that you've raised that possibility I can see maybe that was how he intended it. Like the other responder said though, pointing her out specifically kind of does make it about her. Like you said, there's a general issue with Hollywood and body image, and there's ways to parody that without narrowing it to a single instance. So maybe his intention there wasn't bad, but the execution did not come off that way.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That was how I read it too.

I think the aliciasilv comment was in response to this.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"In March 2012 she [Alicia Silverstone] uploaded video of herself feeding pre-chewed food to her son from her own mouth, a process called premastication. In response to criticism, she made a statement that it's been going on for thousands of years, and is perfectly natural." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alicia_Silverstone

Which sounds kind of gross (even if I know animals do it and yes, people have done it for a long time), but I don't see anything inherently wrong with it, certainly nothing I would call someone a pad parent over.

Re: I think the aliciasilv comment was in response to this.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that seems like Jared hopping on the bandwagon to pick on something easy to ridicule (but isn't actually hurting anyone). Mean-spirited especially when it's slanted not as "ew gross" but "bad parent". At the same time I wouldn't be surprised to see similar comments made in my own social circles so it pretty much registers as mild garden-variety jerkishness.

Some thoughts should be kept to yourself and not shared with the world at large.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Practice what you preach, hypocrite.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-10 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Seeing as there's nothing in fauxkaren's reply that seems inflammatory, I presume you're referring to some past opinions?

In any case, fandomsecrets on Dreamwidth is not quite the world-wide platform that Twitter is.

I also think there's a difference between arguing fandom-related topics about character interpretation, story arcs, etc. and calling out other actors for being too thin, or for their entirely un-sad deaths due to addiction problems.

It's also an astonishingly poor PR move on his part (unless he's angling for a reality series, or something), although I suppose he was never going to be moving in A.Jolie or P.S.Hoffman spheres anyway.
