I'm not necessarily against fanservice but the fact that Ryuko was forced to wear Senketsu against her own will at first bothered me.
There's a difference in tone when some of the female characters exhibit their nudity not by choice while the male characters that get naked mostly do it willingly.

Also Aikuro is a creep and having him take his clothes off in front of his student was not very pleasant to see.

I doubt all the guys who got naked when Ryuuko destroyed their outfits were happy with being naked.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
True, I didn't think about that.

Though the thing is, most of them were background/minor characters (while the dichotomy I was talking about was between main characters like Ryuko and the teacher) and correct me if I'm wrong but it's most of the time not portrayed in a fanservice manner.
When she fights and beats the tennis captain, we can see guys having nosebleed and masturbating in the audience. I don't remember seeing that kind of little "easter egg" for guys characters.

But well, I'm not fond of KLK's "fanservice" in general, wether it concerns male or female characters.

Actually, there was one, in the don't be tardy episode. Gamagoori admits in an argument with Mako that he sleeps naked and one of the background girls blushes and starts to wiggle.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. The show would have sent a whole different message at she liked wearing such clothing in the first place and didn't give a flying fuck what anyone else thought about it. But the show is pretty much saying, "Get naked for the male to gaze at you for power or wear what makes you feel comfortable and be powerless."

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, you missed the point so much. The message of the show is "wear whatever you want and don't give a shit about other people judging you".

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I think you've completely missed the point of your own statement. "Wear whatever you want" hardly means being forced to wear something you don't want to or that makes you uncomfortable.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, and that's why Ryuuko didn't unleash Senketsu's true power until she stopped being embarrassed and was comfortable wearing him.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
So the message is "wear next-to-naked-clothing even though it makes you feel uncomfortable until you finally give in and force yourself to feel comfortable with it to obtain 'true power.'"

That sounds a bit like if you rape someone enough they'll eventually give in and are forced to enjoy it.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
There's something very very wrong and sick with you if you honestly believe that. And please stop trivializing rape.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Trivializing rape? This is coming from someone who watches a show that promotes rape culture?

It was an appropriate analogy for such a show.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Man, you got me (there are people that clinically retarded in Tumblr, I thought you were one of them), but this line about 'rape culture' was too obvious. Anyways, good job, anon. Next time try not to overdo the SJW thing. 6/10.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
The level of your ignorance is quite impeccable.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Learn to accept defeat gracefully, my dear troll. I'm sure you'll do it better next time!

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps.

But KLK to me is still a disgusting excuse of a show.

Down with patriarchy!

What do you have against that poor bird?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Legit question: if the show made it so the clothes were literal aliens that plan to take people over and consume them, what kind of logical, thematic message would it then imply if the characters fought against that?

(Because SPOILERS:

The clothes are legit alien lifeforms using humans as a food/energy source and intend to eventually consume them. Yeaaaah.

/END SPOILERS)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
But Aikuro is hot. Plus it has to do with the fact that he hates wearing clothing and what it stands for.
