I hate GRRM's female characters. I also hate his male characters. I didn't find them realistic at all, they all seemed like caricatures of horribleness to me. Kind of like his storytelling.

Yup. Also, the OP sounds like a misogynist.

Op, even with weak-written female characters, you really can't find anything good about them? So much that you have a knee-jerk reaction to them? You're a fucking misogynist.

ayrt

I don't think OP is a misogynist? It's okay not to like characters - as long as she doesn't dislike them because they are female, whether consciously or otherwise. But especially in the fantasy genre, there are a lot of crappy male-fantasy female characters.

His characters are a hell of a lot more realistic than the rest of the fantasy genre.

Because the entire world is a rape-filled, misogynistic cauldron of despair and slime. Yeah, I wanna go there and live my life.

DA. This comment reads like a misfire. I don't think it is, but it's like you're having some sort of parallel conversation where there were a whole lot of arguments missing.

"More realistic" does not equate to "paradise, go live there!" So... you don't want to live there. Okay, then don't.

I think she/he is one of those people who think the fantasy genre is (or should be) about flawless noble heroes battling inhuman monsters. There are some "old school" fantasy neckbeards who think Martin and writers like him "ruined" fantasy.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-12 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
No, Martin's universe is called a crapsack world for a reason. The point is that that's not inherently any more realistic than a world of flawless noble heroes battling inhuman monsters.

THIS.

Anyone who thinks Martin's world is totally realistic has a very skewed perception of reality - and even historical reality. Martin designed his characters and plot seemingly on shock factor horror, and that's not any more real than a world of heroes who always do the right thing.

You're deliberately being an ass. There's nothing happening in Martin's series (about kingdom torn apart by a war) that doesn't happen in the real world where there are wars going on. Read about Syria, Congo, and all the others.

Dragons?
