So I'm the only one who read this sarcastically?

I thought it might be fake.

I still think it might be fake, though it also might not. Hard to tell.

The comments make me think this is maybe not such an uncommon experience so it's less likely to be fake?

I think it's real, but I'm probably biased.

Fanfic helped me out with real-world sex, so I can see it happening on this level. In my case, both reading and writing fanfic kickstarted a lot of my research into BDSM, fetishes and kinks, the details of SSC and other safety measures, the grain of truth in porn and what is all lies, etc. - information I'd used for myself, as well as helping out a lot of other people with their sexual lives/problems.

*shrugs*

Yup, this. Fanfic had been the gateway to Real Life Sex research as well. Never seen good erotic books that would do the same for me. Hell, as a 13 year old, I knew most porn romance books had been horrible.

Huh. I was under the impression that fandom sex was generally not that realistic? But I have not had sex nor have I read very much smut so I really would not know. I guess it's more helpful/accurate than I though.

It isn't realistic, but that doesn't mean there aren't any good ideas. A lot of the smaller aspects, rather than the broader/more popular tropes, are useful. Perhaps more importantly, though, if you read a lot of smut at a younger age without much additional context/information, fanfic is really good about both kicking off sex research and guiding it, which is also a big contributor.

It's more that fanfiction sex is highly idealized, for the most part. No, not every sexual encounter is going to end in mindblowing orgasms for all. And not every position you try is going to work, due to logistics like height differences, flexibility, genital positioning/shape, etc. so on and so forth.

But when you combine a decent smut writer with personal research, it can actually give someone a decent blueprint. (Like I would never have known about prostate stimulation if not for fic, since I don't have one. Let's just say, the guys I've used that knowledge on have been grateful for my research. ;) )

OP here: Yes, I was sincere :)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-16 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I absolutely meant it; no, not all fic is realistic, no my experience wasn't absolutely PERFECT, but yes, it was amazing and awesome because I could apply things I'd read about and things I probably wouldn't have thought of trying if I hadn't read and researched and fantasized about them so much. So, yes, absolutely sincerely, thanks to all the slash writers

I learned a lot from reading, and researching to write (For example, asking other people, RPing), slash fic. I could very well have written this secret! :D

The first time I had sex, my partner never knew I was a virgin. I was sloshed enough to feel confident, and had read enough fanfic to know how to (more or less!) handle ladyparts. So it can happen.

(I blew her mind, and it's kind of sad she didn't reciprocate.)

I started reading it sarcastically, by the time I'd gotten to the middle I was reading it sincerely, and then when I got to the valediction it'd slipped back into the sarcastic tone.

I hope it's an honest secret, though, because it's kind of wonderful.

OP: Yes, I totally meant it.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-16 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I was afraid it'd come across the wrong way (exclamation points and joy can look so much like sarcasm and visa versa) but I'd hoped the pic was positive enough to swing it in the right direction. Still, glad the desired meaning has been accepted so positively by people, even if the sincerity level wasn't as obvious as I'd hoped.
