...These comms must be strictly full of show fans if they seriously think Jaime/Cersei is going to be endgame.

It's less about them being endgame as in "living happily ever after" and more about the fact that Jaime's and Cersei's fates are entwined and that, ideally, they'll die together. At least that's the general idea I get from the book!Jaime/Cersei shippers I know.

Yeah, but after Jaime abandoning Cersei in AFfC and all of his thoughts about Brienne, I'm not really sure how they're getting the idea that even that would happen. I mean, I'm also sure the twins are going to die at some point, but I very much doubt that Jaime/Cersei is the direction that GRRM is going to take the story in.

I have absolutely no horse in the race shipping-wise because I find neither ship particularly interesting, but despite Jaime's abandonment I'm not sure that means that they're definitely done with each other now and will have nothing to do with each other anymore. I mean, THE most popular theory is Jaime killing Cersei in the end (and then potentially dying himself), so however it goes, I doubt their story is done.

As for Brienne, I frankly just hope that she'll get a more interesting ending than being Jaime's girlfriend.

I absolutely agree re:Brienne

(BOOK SPOILERS AHEAD)

I suppose it's because Jaime still seems to be the most logical choice for the valonqar. It's not Tyrion because Cersei has always thought it would be, and most of the other theories seem rather far-fetched. Also, should Cersei go completely insane à la Aerys and wildfire, Jaime killing her would make for a nice full narrative circle.

I somewhat agree with that, but I don't think that precludes Jaime/Brienne as a romantic pairing.

Also I think it would be infinitely more satisfying to see Brienne kill Cersei, but that might just be me.

ayrt

Oh no, it doesn't. I didn't mean that. Endgame-wise, I guess an issue are the implications that Jaime and Cersei will die together/at the same time, which are as much a self-fulfilling prophecy as the valonqar prophecy itself. So basically, it would be up to Jaime, should he end up killing her.

Personally, I wouldn't want to see Brienne kill Cersei because it's the kind of juxtaposition that seems very black and white to me in terms of morals (whereas Jaime killing Cersei is virtually Jaime killing a part of himself), but I can absolutely see why you'd prefer that.

(And I should clarify that talking about endgame, I don't consider Jaime and Cersei to be viable as romantic endgame in any way, just that they may die together which of course doesn't mean that something couldn't well happen between Jaime and Brienne before that.)
