Same. Something about hearing disembodied voices creeps me out. Unless it's music.

I used to think audiobooks weren't a thing I could do, but then I realized I can listen to them on the bus and not have to worry about missing my stop.

This is usually true for me too, because I need to give the audiobook my undivided attention, but I'm the sort of person who needs to be doing something with my hands at the same time as doing something else with my brain, and without a visual to focus on, my auditory attention is too likely to drift and then I lose the thread of the narrative.

They can be fun if you listen while you're doing something else, like cooking or cleaning...

That's the problem, though -- if I'm doing something like that, I'm liable to lose concentration on the story. I can multitask during a TV show or movie because there's also something to look at, which I think helps me keep focus. With an audiobook, it's too easy for it to turn into "background noise" and I miss what's going on.

Ditto on the audio books. I read really fast, which makes them sound sooo slow to me. I get bored. The only podcast I've ever listened to is Welcome to Night Vale, which I understand is a unique podcast, so IDK whether I'd like other ones or not.

I love audio books, but I often use them to help me fall asleep, so I kind of see where you're coming from.

Same. It could work for my long trips home on the bus but I space out too much.

Agreement on the podcasts. It seems like everyone is doing them and there's probably some interesting ones out there, but I just can't do it.

Oh thank fuck I'm not the only one (sometimes feels like it in my social circle).

Whether I'm reading or watching or both, I need to see something to get into it. (Which is ironic because apparently I'm at least partially an auditory learner?).

Yes, I've seen the Welcome to Night Vale fanart. Yes, I agree it's a great premise. No, I'm not interested in getting into the fandom, please, friends, stop asking me to! >.<

That reminds me that I found a copy of "The Goblin Market" poem that had an audio recording available on the page with it. I couldn't listen to the recording for long because the way the person way reading it just bugged me with some of her dramatic deliveries and how slow it was while I was impatient to read ahead.

I can't stand the idea of listening to fanfic podcast either. I fear the reading would end up sounding terribly awkward.

Oh, and since I didn't address it, my only issue with audiobooks is if they abridge it. The first version of on of the Thrawn trilogy - I think it was "The Last Command" but I'm not sure - I had was an audiobook and I was not aware that I was missing huge amount of detail and context because it was abridged.
