(Anonymous) 2014-02-22 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)If I see a strange, unleashed dog of any type or size I have to fight my flight instinct very hard. I was once approached by someone walking her unleashed dog in the middle of the night while I was fumbling with my door lock and was already nervous, and I seriously just ran. Luckily the dog and human were perfectly normal people who probably side-eyed me and went on. But this happened when I was like, 23.

I can see hanging out in your front yard if your dog is reliable enough not to leave (my old dog couldn't run very far even if she wanted to), but walking into other peoples' spaces? Use a leash. It's both inconsiderate to people AND dangerous for the dog.

Do you have some story behind your fear of dogs, or is it just an irrational fear (like the way I am randomly terrified of spiders, cockroaches, and silverfish)? Because the two kinds of fears often have different ways to go about conquering them most efficiently.
