Re: General Complaints Thread

I started a new job that requires me being on my feet for the entire 8+ hour shift. I just finished my third week, and though my feet don't hurt anymore, my back is just killing me. Every day that I go, I grit my teeth and feel like my spine is about to crack. Then when I got home from work last night, I realized I was running a fever, too. Luckily today is my day off, but ugh. I need this job, and I more or less enjoy it. But I feel like it's draining me dry.

I understand! I work as a shipper for an online company and I am in my feet the entire time grabbing stuff and packing orders.

Get good shoes as soon as you can.

And hang in there and feel better.

Get better shoes, and also do exercises to strengthen your core!

Back when I worked retail, I wore a black pair of "nurses' shoes" for the support and comfort. You could also look into gel insoles or orthotics.

I would also suggest trying to mind your posture. Tuck your butt under your spine to curl your lower back. You can stand there and do little ab curls. It will also help to occasionally bring one knee up and hug it to your chest for a bit, then repeat with the other knee. Then bend down and reach for your toes.

If you're broke as a joke, insoles are the way to go. I spent 9 years off and on at a job where I basically had to stand/walk on concrete all day, and getting decent insoles really made a difference in my knees and back.
