How about ones you have no talent to create? Because I have a complex Loki/Castiel headcanon that I have no idea how to put down on paper.

In 2014 I question how many people will be familiar with both of these fandoms, but: 7th Heaven/Jumpin' Jack Flash -- Peter Caine leaves the CIA and becomes Rev. Camden...and then his past catches up with him.

I'd read it! I just showed JJF to my youngest kid and was awesomely pleased that she enjoyed it as much as I did originally.

I recently had one for a comic that would be set in an anachronistic city and each chapter would have a different art style to represent different art movements.

It's not that I'm too lazy, it's that for a lot of my ideas, I'll never be able to get them down on paper like I see them in my head. I have written bits and pieces for a some of them, though.

I feel you on that. I have so many ideas, but I know that I would struggle hard to get them out in words.

I have about a billion of them at this point. LOTR related alone I could go on forever. The first time Arwen experiences an illness like a cold and the only person she will allow to sit with her is Legolas because he wont get sick, and so she can complain freely. Legolas is actually like 5000 years old and all about his life. Or he is somehow born mute or deaf and his family creates elvin sign language b/c that has never happened before and him growing up and a rewrite of the quest to fit. Legolas/Eowyn and their shared misery that Aragorn cant be theirs. BB!Legolas in Lorien after the death of his mom and Galadriel being like one to him in her absence.

I'm sure everyone can sense a theme in my imagination LOL. But honestly I come up with new fic ideas like every day...

ALSO Zetsuen no Tempest/Pacific Rim crossover with Mahiro, Aika, and Yoshino piloting together.

I have so many ideas. An overwhelming amount of ideas. It's not that I'm lazy, but I've been saving them up and slowly developing them over time. I put a bunch of them in a document that I use as a prompt generator when I'm blocked.

My most recent is a Frozen AU where Hans and Kristoph are butch lesbians, and I'm also brainstorming a Long Live the Queen thing, but all I've got so far is that it's Brin/Elodie and it involves MURDER. They'll get done. Eventually. I'm just wrapping up a very stressful term at school and jumping right into my next, so.

Two words: language pirates.

Also, stories featuring anthropomorphic musical instruments seems like a niche that has yet to be adequately tapped.

My brain randomly generates story ideas as a default setting. If my brain is idling, it's idling in story mode. I dream the damn things. I've got a list in a notebook of around 30/40 original universes that are detailed to the point of timelines and naming characters (usually my last step, for some reason), and I haven't even bothered listing the fandom ones anywhere.

I've only ever written the barest fraction of these. I've written around 500 odd fanfics over the past six years (of extremely variable quality), and probably over 800 since I started posting when I was 16, and it is honestly a fraction of the ideas I remember. (AO3 makes tallying these things a lot easier).

My problem is not ideas. My problem is managing to find space in the welter of new ideas to actually write down the ones I've got.

And once it gets past a certain level of complexity in my head, if it's been running too long, I kind of ... never really write them? They feel too big and unwieldy and I can't figure out where I'd start anymore. They just live in my head as neat universes to distract me when I'm in waiting rooms and lying awake at night.

My skills are variable, my patience extremely so, but I never lack for ideas.

This entire comment could have been me typing in my sleep (except I definitely haven't written 500 fanfics), but THIS LINE. This is exactly me. I feel such odd warm feelings towards you, anon :)

Your mind sounds a bit like mine. All sorts of stories popping up everywhere. If I'm lucky, a fandom-related one I can wrangle into a coherent summary that I can dump on the kink meme. If it involves my RP characters, I'll tell Valandhir and we'll RP it out.

I once planned an elaborate saga of fics centering on Aberforth Dumbledore (this was pre-HBP), beginning with a Victorian Hogwarts story. Also the Patils' ancestors were involved. There were 4-5 stories planned, going from about 1857-1978. Two were murder mysteries. I have a surprising amount of notes and about a chapter and half (on average) written of each. I looked at what I had earlier this year because I felt I should write an updated ff.net profile summarizing this stuff, and I was actually fairly impressed with how much research and planning high school me had done on this stuff.

Oh and these were technically an AU, taking place in the same universe as that Founders story I never wrote. I moved the date of the founding of Hogwarts forward by about 300-350 years so that I could have the issue the Founders had their big falling-out over be whether or not they should extending magical healing to the muggle world during the Black Death. Which I still think is a pretty good idea.

I have this idea for a retelling of the Greek myth of Jason and Medea as a western, but I have no faith in my ability to do it justice and the one western I attempted reading bored me to tears.

I have a strong desire for a well-written Sherlock fic where Molly Hooper was the real Moriarty, where her artless behavior is actually very very deceptive and her interest in Sherlock is designed to put her far below his radar. I want to see her stronger and more assured than any Irene Adler could be. I want to see the Holmes brothers utterly devastated by their own blind spots and egotistic assumptions that they alone see things clearly. I want to see Molly triumphant.

Oh, yeah, that's what I want. I simply have no time to put to it nor enough confidence in my grasp of the characters that they wouldn't be horribly OOC.

I have soooooooo many. I actually have a word doc full of fic brainstorming, and here are the most well-developed ones from the past year:

- a multi-chapter thriller about What Really Happened in the epic and scandalous Netherland-Sumatra affair mentioned in the Sherlock Holmes story "The Reigate Puzzle" because it must have been a big whopping deal to drive him to collapse and what was Watson doing at the time and how did the recovery go afterwards

- an epic face-off between Watson and Sebastian Moran

- yet another "what happened between the end of the five-year mission and The Motion Picture?" fic for Star Trek TOS.

- a darkfic AU about The West Wing core staff slowly and tragically going evil in the face of extreme circumstances

- a cracky 5 times fic of Walt & Jesse's few genuinely fun and lighthearted meth-making escapades

- a noir-ish Batman/Catwoman romance with a Harley/Ivy subplot

- a short-on-wordcount but far-reaching and expansive Thor-centric Loki redemption fic about the Power of Brotherly Love that probably won't happen now that The Dark World is in canon

- a Starsky & Hutch fic intended to answer the question "wtf happened between the third and fourth seasons anyway?" involving a big ugly demoralizing police corruption debacle with extreme trauma and moral compromises and forced codependency to explain where all the tension came from

- a How I Met Your Mother futurefic set in the year 2031 surrounding the death of one of the characters (hadn't decided which one)

- a story about the meeting, friendship, and school-founding escapades of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. I have detailed character dynamics and appearances and backstories and everything. Salazar was some kind of high order Druid priest (but he thinks it's super boring), see, and Godric, who was some penniless wandering knight-errant from the Highlands gatecrashed his Super Boring Very Important and Exclusive Big-Wig Ceremony to ask him if there were any dragons around that needed slaying or taming. So Salazar is like "who is this dumbshit?" and they get into a big argument. Meanwhile, not too far away, this highly learned superintelligent noblewoman named Rowena gets almost assassinated by a bunch of wizards for writing down spells, which was FORBIDDEN back in the day, but she gets rescued by some random cheerful Viking lady named Helga who had been kicked out of Scandinavia for trying to teach squibs magic. They raise a big ruckus and go on the run, and Godric and Salazar hear of it and come over to contain the disaster (while still arguing) and meet up with the ladies, and realize that they're pretty cool, so they go on the run with them. During their running, Godric and Salazar stop bickering and become BFFs, and Helga and Rowena hatch the idea of starting a magic school, and the dudes go "hell yeah!" and they all four go on a load of big epic adventures retrieving powerful magical talismans to protect their school and seeking out recruits.

That Minecraft AU for one of my fandoms that was really about one of the characters dying young and creating a fantasy world in which to resolve all his issues before heading off to the afterlife. I love this idea so much but it's never going to happen.

So many.

My most current one is an Anna/Hans fic where he sticks around for awhile before proposing and somewhere in there they sleep together, so when they do get engaged and Elsa freaks out and the whole plot of the movie happens, Anna is pregnant at the end of that and then has to deal with it. Not writing since I'm currently working on another Anna/Hans fic and I prefer adventure/action/backstabbing to pregnancy drama, so yeah.

The big one I know I'm never going to get to is a Korra one where Amon and Tarrlok were Koh and Wanshitong respectively. They both wanted revenge on the avatar for various reasons, so they took human form and fake memories. When the boat explodes, Wanshitong is like "welp, that was a waste of time. Peace." But Koh wants another go. He ends up washed up on a beach somewhere with Amon personality back in place. The fic would officially start here as your average post season one, Amon lives and slowly bonds with Korra maybe friendship maybe ship fic. Then slowly his fabricated self starts to unravel because it was risky enough the first time let alone the second. Then during some dramatic moment when they finally trust each other and are friends, his true Koh personality bursts though. After that all I've got is wow. Much showdown. Very drama.

my bad self wants to write an au version of burnt njal but set it in present-day philadelphia or chicago and see if people who thought the characters were cool and badass when they were noble icelanders way back in the misty past would think differently of them if they were people you might hear about on the evening news

but you can't really have the equivalent of the althing battle nowadays

I still have a small opening piece for an idea of one of my super-powerful cosmic goddess type OC characters (who I sometimes say are Mary Sues, because I know they could easily slip into being such) becoming a childhood mentor for Harry Potter, in a very Mary Poppins sort of way.

She'd start teaching him magic, give him ways to mitigate the worst of the Dursleys, and when a few years later he hits Hogwarts age, she manages to finagle a job at Hogwarts out of Dumbledore. not DADA, but something else.

She actually should stay mostly in the background, a voice of wisdom that actually listens to Harry, someone who digs into things Harry does not quite see.
She also has her own agenda, but helping Harry helps her. In her cosmic goddess role, she's in a war against demons and she believes Voldemort has a compact with them.

It would likely have some Dumbledore bashing, possibly less than kindly look at the Weasleys, and Harry/Hermione.

Also, Luna has connection to her grandmother (see my icon).
