Re: Yoga

my yoga teachers all just let inspiration come to them as the class progresses. Most of what they want us to get out of the class is to be more mindful of yourself and your energy and how you approach the world.

I go to class 3 times a week and see different instructors and all of them say yoga is an individual practice, so basically you do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Does that help?

I have to ask. Is it good to shape up a bit? I'm aware it's not aerobic exercise, I just wonder if I should pick it up or just hit a gym (which I hate) or try jogging (I usually quit after a while because it's BORING) if I want to see some little results in the short term. I'm realizing my body is starting to need it lately... I never ever exercise. :/

I think if you're not exercising right now, yoga is an excellent way to start since it'll stretch out your muscles, make you more limber, and thus help to prevent injury if you decide to do more strenuous exercises like running.

I'm trying to find yoga dvds I like as can't afford classes right now and am interested......and I've only done it off and on and not consistently, but I'll say this about yoga: it's excellent stretching, when I was doing it, it greatly reduced/eliminated my muscle aches and back pains, and I think it helping me build up my muscle strength a bit due to it being bodyweight exercises--that is using your body's weight to build muscles--depending on the pose that i used.

I think give it a try and see if you like it. I really need to get back to it, the way my muscles/back aches.

I'm not sure how weight loss-y it is, but I do think it helps improve overall health and get your body in better condition.

I'm after that actually. It's not really weight loss I need, maybe just a bit, but I seriously need to get off my ass. Health wise I'm starting to see some problems I need to take care of. It could be a good choice in that sense.

I've been doing it since August and really haven't noticed much of a difference as far as shaping up. (I have a small build to begin with) I feel stronger and it's given me an inner peace, but if you're looking to build muscle or get in shape in the short term, I'd try something else.

If you're looking for something that will help you maybe start an exercise regimen, it's been a great motivator to keep me walking and getting out and about.

I NEED motivation. I could start off with something like this, that I find more enjoyable, and maybe it will give me more focus and will to try doing more. I'm desperate, I have to start doing something and keep it up constantly.

Then I say go for it. If nothing else, it will get you moving again and you won't feel like sitting around all day. I also find my posture to be better since I started.
