Re: How do you think the members of your OTPs or brOTPs would react to the other's death?
If we are talking about Bell's actual death (1911), Doyle would probably react the same way, but his grief would be much more bearable, and he would remember the good things, too. And ultimately, he'd be much more happy than if Bell were killed by Cream (or somebody else).
Bell? Bell would bloody break. He'd never be happy again, ever. He'd go on working on the cases alone, invariably gloomy and pessimistic, and die knowing that he did what had to be done. But he'd never recover. It isn't like Bell to be suicidal, so he wouldn't kill himself (not unless he believed that Doyle's death was his fault, which, admittedly, is kind of likely in the context of the series).
II. Well, we've seen how Watson reacted to Holmes's "death". He moved on and had a normal married life and was fine in many regards. I don't think Holmes's demise was unbearable to Watson or that it was emotionally breaking him - he grieved, yes, he grieved a lot, but it was not a morbid kind of grief. Maybe a little deeper than it's entirely healthy, but not so as for Watson to be unable to endure it.
He'd always cherish his memories of Holmes, always remember him, and always defend his honour if such a necessity should arise (see EMPT). Holmes would be like his metaphorical guardian angel.
Holmes? I'm pretty sure he'd commit suicide. I can't imagine Holmes living without Watson.
III. Peter Grant would be traumatized for the rest of his life by Nightingale's death. It wouldn't be unbearable grief or anything like that, but he'd flinch and feel his blood run a little colder every time he'd remember it.
In theory, he'd able to move on and have a normal life. But in practice, he'd have the Folly to take care of, and I imagine that ultimately, he'd just become the second Nightingale.
Or maybe he'd become a genius loci. I feel like it would be the best solution for him.
Nightingale? He'd probably be suicidal, but I'm not sure he would actually commit suicide. He might pull himself together and soldier on. It wouldn't end well, though.
it is it weird that I have brotps who wouldn't give a damn
Well, OK, Yossarian would drink to Doc's memory. And then he'd go and fuck Nurse Duckett. And that's it.
My brotps are strange.
Re: How do you think the members of your OTPs or brOTPs would react to the other's death?
(Although I think that if Watson died while Holmes was in the middle of a case, he'd still finish the case first.)
Re: How do you think the members of your OTPs or brOTPs would react to the other's death?
I'm not sure ACD himself would make Holmes commit suicide, but then again, I also think that a major character death in the context of this series is such an unimaginable thing that there is no guessing the would-be authorial intent. And from the looks of it, Holmes wouldn't be able to go on after Watson's death. And I seriously doubt he'd willingly choose the gallows after killing Evans.
ETA: isn't it a little eerie how we always agree on things and talk to each other? I may just be your fictional twin or something along the lines of William Wilson.
Re: How do you think the members of your OTPs or brOTPs would react to the other's death?
ETA: oh man, now I want fic where Watson's death IS the case that Holmes has to investigate first.
