I really hope you and your friends are teenagers.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd be surprised. A friend of mine randomly decided she only wanted JPop (or maybe KPop, I forget which) friends and defriended me along with a few others. She would've been about 22 or 23 at the time. What was weird was that right beforehand, we'd been on last name basis, which for fandom is a pretty big deal.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh ffs it's already fandom, would you really be happier if they were writing fanfic about Bon Iver? You sound like those people hand-wringing over adults reading Harry Potter.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they're talking more about the way they're treating their friends. It's pretty immature, I know I did it when I was a teen.

No, we're all in our early/mid-twenties.

It's not necessarily an age thing. I'm in my forties and practically the only way I've EVER been able to make friends with someone is via a common fandom interest. Take away that common ground, and even if I make an effort not to, I'm eventually going to drift away.

It sucks, and I don't do it on purpose, but I seem to all but completely lack the ability to connect with anyone who isn't a close relative any other way. Even some family I lose touch with if they move far away and I don't hear from them often.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I've gone past resentment. I miss my friends.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Seems more like fandom's the main thing in there life and if you aren't interested in it, they're not interested in you.

Hopefully it's an intense phase that'll pass. I mean, boyband phases don't tend to be very long. You should've seen me back in my BSB days. My dad was not happy at how much of their music I wanted to play on long car trips. xD

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
*Hugs* I think that's part of why I don't like bandom - beyond not really seeing the point, it's like bandomers won't talk to anyone not in their bandom anymore. I mean, it's happened with other fandoms too, but bandom especially.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I've resented (even more) MANY bands for this: from Fueled by Ramen groups to fucking Aerosmith.

That's sort of a natural reaction.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not the group's fault, but that doesn't matter to your feelings. Can you find something in the fandom that you like, maybe? Or maybe you can find your own thing.

Re: That's sort of a natural reaction.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, no? Most people who have half a brain in their heads--and aren't completely shallow little turds--don't get so consumed by a single interest that they dump friends who don't share it.

Oh, OP

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You should resent your friends, because they suck at being friends.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, OP. I'm sure that they'll cool down about it after a while and it'll go back to normal. Maybe, if they're really hung up on this band right now, you could get a hobby or hang out with some different people to pass the time. They'll get back to normal before you know it.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
If they've become girlfriend-hating tinhats, it's probably a good decision.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in the same boat, anon. I don't hate the band, but it's seriously depressing to have messages ignored and invitations brushed off because you're not into their main interest anymore.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
You should not feel bad about losing the attention of anyone who is into that group. Srsly.

*nodnod* that's understandable. It sounds like you're too mature to actually go about blaming the band (not that they would probably care - they're a famous band ffs) but it's very, very hard not to have those feelings leech over. I'm sorry that's happened with your friends.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
This was me and my friend when she finally gave in and started watching Supernatural.

As long as you remember that it's not actually the band's fault. Feelings can be really troublesome like that, being illogical at which direction they go.
