A lot of tumblrites watch it because they 100 percent believe it's leading towards Destiel, when everything outside of their fandom meta dumps says otherwise. To each their own.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean it's not? :-(

Shame.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't watch it, but a friend is a fan (and ships Destiel, but I don't think she's crazy?) and she said that though it probably won't ever be canon, the writers seem to be deliberately putting in slash fodder and lots of Dean/Cas "moments" that even non-slash fans might raise an eyebrow at?

There's definitely a bit of subtext. It's mostly just there for the laughs, and the rest is just cheap pandering to the fangirls (everything about this show is cheap pandering), but it's subtext and it's there. It definitely won't ever be anything more than obvious and pandering subtext, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with this. Even if I ship slash a fair bit of the time, I can't stand pandering. It's so demeaning and shallow.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I figured. But whether or not it's "pandering", those moments are still canon, right? I don't watch the show, again, but if Dean and Cas are having "gay moments", no matter the intention, I don't think the pairing can be considered a ridiculous fan invention or anything.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
na

I don't think the idea of the pairing is ridiculous fan invention, but I think fans who sincerely believe the show is actually going to go there are deluded.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
da

I agree with this assessment completely. It's also why I stopped watching. I dislike the fact that they tease it with 100% no intention of follow-through. (To limit my craziness somewhat, this is not the only reason I stopped watching, just the final straw)

I've always been terrible at telling friendshippy subtext from romance-y subtext (being an asexual doesn't help :/), so... dunno, I'm not sure what the difference is.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure there is a difference.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Like the anon above said, there isn't much of a difference. People see what they want to see. Some people see close friendship, other people see "twu wuv 4ever." I've seen people parlay a 2-second look into an unspoken declaration of love/lust.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Me too! (To every word of this comment. In my mind, Hermione/Ron came way out of left field. I didn't pick up on it at all. I pretty much need someone to state it before I see it.)

Really? Cas has spent more time hanging out with Sam than Dean this season.

[personal profile] gondremark 2014-03-02 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
But only because Dean pulled that dramatic "we can't!" thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember when Cas and Dean were bros over that hot chick Cas banged? Good times!

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, the poor possessed girl that Dean killed the hell out of after the Reaper inside her had sex with Cas under false pretenses. Ugh. This season has been so incredibly gross.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
...what the hell? Are these people actually supposed to be the heroes of the show?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like Dean and Sam haven't been close to heroic since at least season five. They alllllmost made it in season eight, but all signs have disappeared since the start of season nein.

The show completely disregards the mechanisms it's set up.
First, they establish that the demons are critters possessing people, and there's a big whoop-to-do about getting the demons out. But then a few seasons later they just sort of forgot their own worldbuilding and send the heroes out punching demons, and no one, not the writers, not the heroes, not even the baddies, seem to remember that the demons are possessing ordinary people. And this is only one of the many many aspects where they play coy with their own lore like that.
I don't think the audience is supposed to notice, either, they're just supposed to oogle the pretty actors or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
The demon thing is even more aggravating when considered with the fact that last season they found a way to cure demons. Neverminding that I don't know how that would work (do the demons then get to keep the body they're possessing? Do they go to heaven? Do they go to Purgatory?) the show seems to have brushed it under the rug. They never try to heal the possessed. They never try to exorcise them. They just kill everybody because....because who the hell knows, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yikes. Did they just suddenly decide that it'd be faster to kill everyone? Sounds pretty psychotic.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure why there's not more exorcism, but the cure -- which is basically changing demon back into a regular ghost -- is not so much with the easy.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-03 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I'm always floored by the depth of the delusions of Destiel shippers. They really give the J2/RPF fans a run for their money on the crazy.
