A lot of tumblrites watch it because they 100 percent believe it's leading towards Destiel, when everything outside of their fandom meta dumps says otherwise. To each their own.

I don't watch it, but a friend is a fan (and ships Destiel, but I don't think she's crazy?) and she said that though it probably won't ever be canon, the writers seem to be deliberately putting in slash fodder and lots of Dean/Cas "moments" that even non-slash fans might raise an eyebrow at?

There's definitely a bit of subtext. It's mostly just there for the laughs, and the rest is just cheap pandering to the fangirls (everything about this show is cheap pandering), but it's subtext and it's there. It definitely won't ever be anything more than obvious and pandering subtext, though.

I agree with this. Even if I ship slash a fair bit of the time, I can't stand pandering. It's so demeaning and shallow.

That's what I figured. But whether or not it's "pandering", those moments are still canon, right? I don't watch the show, again, but if Dean and Cas are having "gay moments", no matter the intention, I don't think the pairing can be considered a ridiculous fan invention or anything.

I've always been terrible at telling friendshippy subtext from romance-y subtext (being an asexual doesn't help :/), so... dunno, I'm not sure what the difference is.

Man, I'm always floored by the depth of the delusions of Destiel shippers. They really give the J2/RPF fans a run for their money on the crazy.

I've only watched the first 8 episodes of Season 1 and I found them alright. Honestly, everything I know about Supernatural is through fandom absorption. XD

You saw the best part of it, then. The first two seasons were enjoyable bad TV, after that it just turned into an even more chaotic mess of increasingly stupid stupidity.

I've only watched the first 8 episodes of Season 1
This makes me kind of sad, because your last episode was "Bugs", which is universally considered one of the worst episodes of early SPN. (There have been worse in later seasons, but there was even an in-show apology for that episode.) But stopping watching after "Bugs" means you missed out on the awesomeness of episodes 9-12 and that's a pity.

Please do watch more. I know the Show hate is strong in F!S, but it really is a good show, with a lot of amazing, wonderful, fun, horror-y moments. Does it have its problems? Sure. But all the hate this show gets here is kind of over the top.

I almost gave up at Bugs, but a friend convinced me not to. And then I ended up liking Seasons 1-3 and kinda 4. I gave up in season 5. I'd say at least finishing off that season would be worth it if you are at all interested in the show's premise.

I watched supernatural too fuss.
I think it's stupid. Sam and Dean are so under prepared and them repeatedly lying to each other for over 8 seasons shows no character development what so ever. Oh wait there has been a development, they don't care that they kill people when they kill demons anymore. What happened to caring? What happened to exorcism? It's so much more logic to exrosice three demons at once (with a tape recorder or voice) than wasting time in a fistfight.

TLDR; the show is getting stupider and worse by the episode.

I agree. I stopped watching at the end of season five, and started watching again when everyone was blowing up about season eight being oh-so-great. But. It really wasn't. And the first half of season nine was a train wreck. I haven't watched since it came back, and have no intention to.

I think the show got infinitely less interesting after season five. I think that (s5) was one of the best storylines with some of the best characters--Gabriel and Lucifer--and it just seemed to go downhill after that.

I haven't watched season nine but from what I've seen and read, it's gone off the tracks completely and doesn't even feel like the same show anymore. The only good thing that remains is Crowley, and he will always be flawless in my eyes.

I'll be completely honest - if it's worth the time to you, OP, I do not think this is a bad reason to watch a show. I know a lot of those SPN secrets fly right over my head xD;

I feel you. I mean about watching the characters get hurt part. That's about 90% of the reason I watched it as long as I did before quitting. They just keep getting bloodied and it's so pretty!
