(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)are you talking about Israel? ISRAEL??? it's one of the few countries in the world where no matter WHAT you fucking look like you won't stand out in the street, because there are people there from every single corner of the world.
You can walk in the streets and hear five or six different languages at any given moment in Jerusalem. Israel is the exact opposite of no immigrants wtf do you know anything about Israel AT ALL

Can I change my answer.
Re: which country has the worlds best special forces
As a Brit, I am not going to state that Australia/New Zealand/Canada/USA/Israel/Russia has better special forces than we do.

And it's not like you're not matched by a couple other places.
But yes, realistically the question is 'are there other countries that are on an equal footing to the US', more so then anyone else being better.

Best by virtue of longevity vs. success: SAS, UK
Best by virtue of being most widely deployed: SFOD-D, USA
Best by virtue of most successful (public) missions record: either Kommando Spezialkrafte or Spetznaz, Germany/Russia
Best by virtue of superior intelligence gathering and overall secrecy: JTF2, Canada
There are a lot of ways to define best when it comes to this sort of thing.
Also please feel free to disagree! I'm not checking sources carefully here.
Re: which country has the worlds best special forces
I'm sure absolutely no one on f!s is qualified to answer that question, and if they do - as another anon has mentioned - it'll be riddled with nationalist pride.
So for the few things we can say with certainty:
In terms of resources it's inarguably the US's JSOC (SFOD-D, Devgru, etc.) Hell, the SAS and JTF-2 have literally had to hitch rides with them to extract from operations on multiple occasions because of technical difficulties with their own air support; their budgets are orders of magnitude higher than the rest and their access to advanced, expensive (particularly aerial) technology is incomparable to any other special forces on the planet.
Of course, like any other group they've had hilarious boondoggles (for the SAS see "Bravo Two-Zero") that were largely due to their own fuckups; humans are human no matter how well-trained they are.
In terms of training? Most of the English-speaking NATO groups train together and run joint operations, so you're probably looking at a comparable level of skill across the board. Certain groups are known for certain things (e.g. the SEALs for aquatic insertions - no shit eh - and JTF-2 for snipers and arctic warfare - again no shit).
The SAS has one of the longest histories of any special forces groups, but whether or not this makes them "better" or "bound to tradition and out of touch" is up for debate. They were still using 80s-style counter terrorist tactics in the early 2000s when SFOD-D had long since moved on. That said they have one of the longest histories of successful operations and are often called upon to train the special forces of other countries.
JTF-2 is one of the few that's still truly secret and doesn't have some retired soldier/sailor with a book deal every other month willing to talk about their operations - to the point where its members can't even be tried in public court because it would require them to be named. It's also one of the few (another is South Korea's "White Tigers") that accepts women, meaning it has access to a much broader pool of talent.
In terms of who beats who in fisticuffs, who really gives a shit. Ultimately these are small enough groups to be affected on a profound level by who happens to be in them/leading them at the time in terms of their effectiveness.
In the end, it's Spetsnaz, because backflipping while throwing axes.
Re: which country has the worlds best special forces
Really, whilst women haven't been 'formerly' accepted by a lot of the special forces, they've worked with them in all but name for decades, just because operationally there's so many benefits to it. This was a big thing about ten years back here, when a load of information got released about the poor treatment related to that historically, insofar as women would get used and then pretty much told thanks for your service but we're not going to recognise you or provide any of the benefits now fuck off.
