Re: When did kink-shaming come back into vogue

If we go with the "orientation is not a choice" idea about paedophilia, then where is the harm in a paedophile who knows that his orientation is legally wrong trying to get his kicks from written or drawn from imagination media?

If he's using photographs or videos of real children, or art drawn from those, or abusing real children himself, then obviously that is wrong. But fictional fantasy that features no real children... if it satisfies their urges, then we shouldn't shame them for it.

I have no idea if it's a healthy treatment for pedophilia to read fic/watch animated porn. I mean, no one real is harmed, so I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with that, but I'd imagine an actual treatment plan would focus on avoiding situations where kids are portrayed as sexual. But if it works for that person? Sure. I'd much rather they read underage fic than download real child porn.

I also kinda resent you using "orientation" to describe pedophilia. I'd say it's a disorder, and not a choice, but let's not use an anthem for legitimizing LGB people for pedophilia, too.

I don't think that is how it works. Imagine a pedophile being the same as an an addict. When an addict goes through therapy they don't say, "Well you can have a bit of meth now and again. That's alright." You have to cut it off and NEVER indulge again. Because if you start with just drawn/written materials, it can very quickly cause a pedophile to relapse or increase their need for the real thing (the same way people are always chasing a better high).

I don't think it works like that.

Indulge never again in real life - definitely yes. Entirely repress that part of themselves and have no therapeutic outlet ever whatsoever - that sounds like an extremely bad idea.

NAYRT

The therapy/rehabilitation programs I am aware of place great importance on voluntary celibacy in all areas of sexual life.

It's not an orientation. It's a very serious disorder and it should be treated as such, not indulged in in ways that are "less" harmful.

1. paedophilia is not an orientation.

2. paedophiles who are actually struggling with their unhealthy sexual urges do not seek out even fictional child porn, because it normalizes those urges and is the opposite of helpful.
