Re: Spelling "women" as "womxn."

Um. What.

I'm a big proponent of gender-neutral language, to the point where I'm sure I get plenty of eye-rolling behind my back. If I'm in a bad mood, I'll snipe at people I know for saying "freshmen". So the fact that I think that's ridiculous is probably saying something.

I'm hilarious.

There are published authors who get paid for their fanfiction-- look at all the Jane Austen sequels and Sherlock Holmes stories out there. It just happens that their fanfiction is from original works in the public domain. There's nothing wrong with wanting to get paid for your work, even if your work started off as a hobby.

i agree! i prefer some kind of belly over a flat stomach, i wish more people could see the charm in them.

ayrt

Jobs and hobbies are not completely different things. I do some things for my job that I would also consider my hobby. That's because I tried to make something I enjoy, a hobby, into my job. It worked for me. I don't see why someone wishing they could turn their hobby into a job - or at least into something they can get a bit of extra money for, which is perfectly acceptable for fanartists - is such a bizarre thing. I know a lot of artists who are way more motivated to work on their art when they get commissions, nobody is accusing them of "not liking to draw".

I hate the first one but I am sad to say I sometimes do the second. In my defense, our toilet paper holder is in a really awkward spot!

Why do you say that?

Re: OP

[personal profile] the_missing_y 2014-03-05 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
That, I suppose, is fair enough. You may have an uphill battle ahead of you, finding media to enjoy, but I genuinely wish you luck.

I do have a follow up question, actually, if you don't mind?

You're in a sexual relationship, yes? So presumably nudity and partial nudity does not squick you IRL?

So where do you stand on, say, live action porn? Is it different because the titillation is the reason it exists?

And to extend that question: What about non-porn media where fanservice is an inherent and intentional part of the character? seductress and seducers? Femme Fatales and roguish Casanova types? Does the fanservice they provide trouble you? Or is it just in shows like (for example) highschool of the dead where the fanservice is present inspite of the characters and stories rather than because of them?

I don't know. I don't hang out with them.

Are they really terrible human beings, though? Or just stupid?

Sounds like a Superman villain or something. I don't understand the point of it (and knowing these things, I probably don't care to know either), but I can't fathom why a student would use it on an actual essay/test/whatever.

I had a little trouble seeing her as Tauriel and not Kate-playing-Tauriel because I hadn't seen her in anything else, but I do like the character. She's pretty badass.

I hated my second roommate in college. She would stay up all night on her computer (which wasn't so bad because I could use an eyemask). What was the worst was she would play some kind of keyboard Dance Dance Revolution game. I fucking HATED the clackclackclack of her keyboard.

WELP.

Robes/cloaks/jackets are amazing

I'm not turned on by it, but Star Wars made me love robes/cloaks and combat boots, so I see where you're coming from.

Not sure if you're tough, or very, very collected. Either way, jealous.
