Scythe. I know it seems a stupid word not to know. I just avoid saying it, but pronounce it in my head skee-the even though someone once told me that was wrong.

(First, happy birthday! Hope it's an excellent one :) )

That's kind of a cool story, then! Are you in research or practice, if you don't mind me asking?

And true, when I'm not frustrated and annoyed with my brain for functioning (or malfunctioning) the way it does, it's pretty incredible to think about.

The hallucinations were rough when they first started happening, because they didn't start until I was in college. They generally pass fairly quickly-- it's usually just about a minute before they disappear. It's usually spiders or some sort of indistinct creature, but the worst ever was when I woke up hallucinating that someone else was in my bed with me. It took me about ten minutes to get over it, and I almost woke up my roommate at the time to ask for help.

Even that is sort of just odd now as a memory, though, terrifying as it was at the time.

(/cool story, thanks for sharing with the class, etc.)

THIS.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Based on the charities I've written for, like helpjapan, helpchili, and the ao3 auction? I've gotten upwards of $100 for a 5000 word fic, and I'm not considered a BNF. It's a pretty decent chunk of change, and there's always negotiation afterwards when it comes to the final product. :)

I was thinking of Teen Wolf, actually. There IS a lot of Derek/f!Stiles, idk why people don't switch Derek as well. I'd be more likely to read it that way.

(However, yea, I have a difficult time imagining the characters when they're genderswapped because I'm so used to thinking of the way they look in canon and it's weird for me.)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
DA. While everyone is aware of him having some rage issues due to the tirade against the poor guy who was fiddling with the lighting while Bale was acting a scene from the last Terminator flick, I think it is an overstatement to definitively state that he is "misogynist and physically abusive to the women in his life, including his mother and sister."

This claim is referring to an argument that took place in the Dorchester Hotel in 2008-ish. Exactly what they were arguing about wasn't ever specified - some people said money, some said no, but this recent article does state "Jenny admits her daughter Sharon did put a “proposition” to Christian, who is worth an estimated £30million, about people she was working with."

Full article here - you can probably google for others:

And back in the days of printed fanzines, people charged money for them. Your point?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, good point.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to complain about Legolas, especially since Thranduil is his dad. If Daddy can be in it, so can son.

And at least he wasn't created specifically for the movie.

It's like "SYE-th", but all one syllable.

Re: Life's Little Annoyances

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Huh! I did not know that! Learn something new every day.

I have to be honest, though-- if there's a flow of several hundred people all walking in one direction, I feel like it might be time to try to overcome your natural instincts and go with the crowd, even if it feels uncomfortable.

That said, I'll do my best to restrain my silent annoyance, knowing that maybe it's just a cultural thing :)

I get like that too. Someone recently asked to see something I'd written and I was nervous but I decided to give it a try since people are always going on about important feedback is and oh isn't it a shame to write but never have anyone read it. They didn't have a single nice thing to say. I'm not that broken up about it since they also said they aren't in the fandom but it was annoying.

Oh man fuck that. Some of the best cosplay I have ever seen has been on bigger people. Fuck the haters, cosplay who you want to cosplay.

It's the costume that counts, and I'm personally sick of people who think the fact that they're conventionally attractive will override the fact that they have the worst piece of shit costume on the planet.

This has been a thing since forever. I first encountered it at sleep away camp when I was 9. Which was 18 years ago. It was stupid then, it's stupid now, and it's going to be stupid in the future.

A minimum of 5€. Yup, even if it's just 1k.

For best effect, picture a guy yelling it while staring upward, then running away.

Breaking Bad - Walt, in his ridiculous tighty-whities, glasses, and Boring Dad hair, in the middle of the desert, aiming a gun.

The West Wing - "I am the Lord your God. Thou shall worship no other Gods before me."

The Wire - McNulty pissing on the railroad tracks as the incoming whistle sounds.

Classic Who - Ian and Barbara realizing the phone box is bigger on the inside.

New Who - Nine: "What are you doing here?" Rose: "I live here!" Nine: "What d'you do that for?"

Downton Abbey - Robert Crawley running after Mr. Bates' carriage apologizing.

How I Met Your Mother - Ted stealing the blue French horn from under the maitre d's nose.

South Park - Kyle: "But...why did you turn the cows inside out?" Aliens: "Oh, that was Carl's fault. He's new." Carl the Alien: "Yeah sorry, my bad."

Starsky & Hutch - Starsky's epic speech in the shithole bar followed by them helpfully passing out paper and pencils so everyone can answer him without getting bumped off.

M*A*S*H - Father Mulcahy winning the raffle for a night with nurse whats-her-name is the only good scene I can remember from the M*A*S*H pilot tbh.

Star Trek TNG - The scene between Data and old!McCoy. "Well, she's a new ship, but she's got the right name. You treat her like a lady, and she'll always bring you home."

I used to because it was part of my upbringing, but I don't anymore.

I wouldn't worry about it. Not everybody writes the punchy lines that are good out of context, but that doesn't mean the stories themselves are bad. I'm sure your lines are appropriately evocative and moving in context. :)
