I have just resigned myself to a life of being always sleepy.

It does not help I don't drink anything with caffeine. D:

I spent over $400 on "tablets and other digital mediums".

Art supplies are costly no matter how you spin it.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, don't do it for the fame. It'll backfire if anon doesn't get the amount of attention he/she may be looking for (I'm not trying to state that in a bitchy manner or anything, I'm actually serious.)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Honey, that doesn't make you a pervert.

Why do you think they sell roleplay costumes for couples and such?

Half the fun is ripping that thing off. If you're a pervert for liking Jedi robes, then I'm a pervert for liking specially designed pirate costumes, fancy suits of men in masks, etc.

People who whine endlessly about their problems but do nothing to solve them. Take action or shut up, sheesh. I'm not your free therapist.

I have two sisters like that. The first born and the baby. : /

the difference is that that $7 book wasn't written at your demand and to your specifications. commissioning someone to write something specific for you is totally different from just picking up some reading material that someone already wrote.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
... and? I'm honestly not sure what your point is, except to imply that writers should be willing to work for free and that being motivated (at least in part) by money is somehow not as legit. There usually are better ways to earn cash than whatever it is a person chooses to do. It doesn't mean that they shouldn't want to get paid for their work.

Re: Tell me what you like about yourself, FS

Aww, thank you!

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
this was my thought too - if i was having trouble getting out even things that i wanted to write, i wouldn't want to add the pressure of having to get writing done for a paying customer.

Re: Great Scenes from the Pilots of your favorite shows

[personal profile] shortysc22 2014-03-05 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Revolution-the fight scene on the stairs between Miles and the militia. It's one guy who pretty much takes on twenty guys and wins. I believe that scene won the stunt guy an Emmy because it was just that impressive. I will rewatch the scene alone over and over again.

Re: Do you observe Lent? if so, what are you giving up this year?

[personal profile] shortysc22 2014-03-05 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's an interesting perspective because a roommate of mine in college used to view it as a sacrifice but if you couldn't give something up yourself, find a way to help others at least. She would encourage the CCD students, rather than giving up something, to give up their time and volunteer.

As for my answer, I give up alcohol every year.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Why? Walk into any bookstore and you'll find it's full of people who wrote books in exchange for money. Many of them might write anyway, but they wouldn't necessarily have written those exact same books, and it wouldn't have been possible to write so many if they hadn't been compensated for their work-- because artists have rents to pay. They need money for food and clothing, and there's nothing wrong with writing for pay because you need money to meet your basic needs.

I see this attitude a lot... that somehow Art is tainted by association with money. I can understand why people might think so, but it's not terribly rational, nor is it terribly practical. Think about all your favorite authors and if you can, ask them if they'd still be able to do what they do if they had to write for free.

Like OP said, nobody tells medical professionals, managers or other professions that doing their jobs solely for money is shitty. People just expect them to do their jobs in a competent fashion, with the requisite compensation. Why are writers singled out?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Uh huh. If all the people who threatened to leave fandom whenever ______ abuse of the system happened actually did it, there'd be nobody left fandom.

I fully acknowledge I am probably doing it wrong. LOL

But I do like the focus on a positive.

I cringed and cringed when the casting announcement and I was still apprehensive when I sat down in the cinema, even if Evangeline Lilly's interviews had slowly dragged me to the pro-Tauriel side.

Having read this thread, I have reached the conclusion that Scandanavians establish relationships the same way university students do. At least, that's what my college experience was like.

I know that our summer is your winter, but does it snow in winter or is it year round beach party?

Is it legal to own a kangaroo? I only ask because I saw a gif on tumblr of a kangaroo in someone's house hopping around in clothes and that seems kind of weird to me.

Are all the animals trying to kill you?

Are women really called Sheila all the time? If I visited and called random women "sheila" would I sound douchey?

How do you feel about this video?

Who is cuter - US Americans or Canadians? (Either way the three of us vs England is not even a competition amirite)

I actually would love to learn about Australian history especially 20th century but I can find no books on it? Do you recommend any? And what is some Australian classic literature?

Is it really a rite of passage for you guys to go travelling when you're young/just out of high school? Because I have always been jealous of that.

What is currently trendy in Australian fashion?

What is typical Australian cuisine like?

Do you like New Zealand? Are they like Australia's Canada?

Do you have gay marriage? How do I get an Australian to marry me so that I can move there?

If you are LGBT, how is the community there? If you are not you can just ignore this question.

ETA: And do you know any Australian urban legends or scary stories?

I don't understand your reasoning at all. Some fanfiction is already not free. It doesn't mean that ALL fanfiction will require money if it becomes legal to charge for it.

Huh. While I'm American, I do have some Scandinavian blood, and pretty much share the same mindset here. I thought I was just being weird about dating, but maybe this explains a few things.
