Re: CANADA
Re: CANADA
I usually don't like saying stereotypes about Canada are true, but yeah that's just how things are done around here. You say thank you and you're welcome and you hold doors and try to be helpful, or you're probably not going to have a good time interacting with people.
Re: CANADA
The Canadian farmers are just totally happy to give out the info, chat about it, tell you it's Farm Show week, commiserate on the weather.... It's so nice, not to have people hang up on you. :)
I say - embrace the stereotype! 'Ugly American' is all too true, and i wish it weren't.

But if the spouse/partner/whoever insists that 'they' wouldn't be interested and 'don't call here again/take us off the list'....we can't. Very few of the jobs allow that kind of agency - they want the person to say no, and then we're done. A lot of wives, sad to say, get really snippy and snotty and 'you can take my word for it!!' and yeah, i can, i know, but...the company can't, so sorry.
Give me one minute to read my little spiel and we're done!

Re: CANADA
I've never heard anyone else do it anywhere, but I'll shout thank you to the bus driver if he or she said hello to me when I got on.
Re: CANADA
I hear it all the time on the bus over here. It just seems super polite, although I do it sometimes too.

Re: CANADA
(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 02:52 am (UTC)(link)Oh yeah, really, really crowded buses are certainly a thing in medium and big cities. Lots of people standing in the passage, nearly on top of each other. Of course it depends on the time of day, line and city. Here I get a lot less of that than in my home city, which is a lot smaller.

Re: CANADA
(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 07:57 am (UTC)(link)Not a lot of "thank you" at the end, because you're not usually allowed to get off at the front of the bus unless it's the final stop or an especially large station where the bus stops twice (once for getting off, once for getting on). Yelling through the bus would be too awkward for north Germans. :)
