Do you know why belgium chocolate began to be produced there and how it became so good? (It's so delicious, btw!)

I do not know how it became to be produced originally. I know it was first imported under Spanish rule, (before Belgium was even a country), because of the prolific trade the Spanish had.

Some of the history is...not so nice, though. During colonialism, King Leopold 2 owned Congo, which was rich in cocoa, and well - it basically involved a lot of exploited Africans :( But that's part of how we got so much chocolate.

I do know that one of the best pralines (have tested) were actually made by a Greek who came to Belgium (which is why they're called Leonidas).
