Belgium
Re: Belgium
Re: Belgium
However, I do go to places called a "frituur" here. I understand this doesn't really exist in a lot of places. It's a place (often where you can eat it, but aimed at a lot of takeway) where you go specifically to buy fries and other fried snacks.
I visit them less now than before , as I try to cut on the junk food, but they're so nice though.
I eat my fries either just with salt, ketchup, cocktail sauce, spicey (samurai) sauce, or "stoofvlees" (a sort of sweet beef stew).
Re: Belgium
And I get what you mean by frituur, though we don't really have them here. I imagine it's along the lines of the British chip shop though, which I am familiar with.
Re: Belgium
It's similar to a chip shop, yes. Though we don't do fish and chips or fried candy bars. And I'd argue English chips are near inedible compared the Belgian fries, though that makes me sound like an elitist snob.

Some of the history is...not so nice, though. During colonialism, King Leopold 2 owned Congo, which was rich in cocoa, and well - it basically involved a lot of exploited Africans :( But that's part of how we got so much chocolate.
I do know that one of the best pralines (have tested) were actually made by a Greek who came to Belgium (which is why they're called Leonidas).
