Hmm... Well, I did wonder where his family was so this clears that up. I actually find this much more interesting than him being an orphan or being 'lost' and the trolls taking him in. I sort of wish that had been further explained in the film, but I could get behind this.

Actually, I loathed the trolls because of how pushy they were. (Dat song...urg.) It probably didn't help that I was (stupidly) blindsided by the romance and thought for once Disney wasn't going to go that route. I thought Anna and Kristoff were just going to be bff's so when the trolls started pushing them together I just wanted to scream "LEAVE THEM ALONE".

ME TOO. I was so happy that for once Disney was focusing on a guy and a girl and the girl already had someone she was interested in and that was fine and they got along perfectly fine as friends.

...and then that song started up and I was like, "this is only going to end in tears." :|

Exactly, I was majorly disappointed when it turned out Anna and Kristoff weren't going to be stay 'just friends'. I love a good romance, but their relationship felt very platonic to me and their romance was so unnecessary, especially considering how Elsa was the one to save Anna. I really would love to see a great girl/guy friend duo in a Disney film and I was hoping this was it.

Nothing to do with the trolls, but I feel like the Anna/Kristoff romance did have a plot point driving it, though? Like, she's all "ahh so he's my true love SAVE ME I'M FREEZING" and then just when you think she's gonna be saved by true love, nope! It's all "NOT MY SISTER" etc. And it's not really Elsa who saved Anna - it was Anna who saved Anna. Choosing to sacrifice herself to protect her sister was the act of true love that thawed her. So I felt like that dramatic running-towards-Kristoff scene was necessary as a contrast to what eventually did save her. It was a "hey, this whole romance thing is tangential to how much these sisters love each other" moment, which I also read as a "Anna, you idiot, you also haven't known Hans for that long, did you expect a kiss from him to work?" moment. Possibly that was only in my head though. XD;

(And then Anna and Kristoff can date for a while and then decide that they prefer being bffs who snark at each other all the time, y/n/m?)

SA

"haven't known KRISTOFF for that long," I meant.

Yea, you're right! I will acknoledge that the Anna/Kristoff thing worked and had it's own purpose, and it did fulfill that purpose, but maybe I'm just bitter because it came out of nowhere for me and I think the movie could've worked without it, even though, like you said, it did help empathize that romantic love is not the only important kind of love.

"Anna, you idiot, you also haven't known Kristoff for that long, did you expect a kiss from him to work?"

I was thinking that too, but...I figured that was just me being cynical; this is Disney after all, though...Kristoff DID bring up the "But you only just met him!" thing earlier in the film, so idk.

(Maybe! I would like that, but I seriously, seriously doubt it, lol. Maybe that should be my headcanon. They aren't terrible together or anything, it just wasn't what I was hoping for. Ah well...)

The second that old troll said 'act of true love' I knew it was going to involve Elsa, and I was *so* happy!

... I also cried. Then got out of the theatre and *immediately* called my sister to say, "I just watched frozen. I cried, and I love you." Seriously, that was all I could say. I think I repeated that to her about three times before just hanging up.

Yes. Those sillies bumbling their way through an attempted relationship while still being snarky bff's would be *epic*! I'd *love* to see that!

There's also the simple physical fact of her running after Kristoff put her in the location to protect Elsa.

Oh, yup, so much this!

I mean, I don't even mind Kristoff/Anna, especially since at the end it is a more gradual thing that seems to just be starting, but that song...that pushing.

"Being engaged" making her a "fixer-upper." "Get the fiance out of the way"...what, even.

I wanted them to just be BFFs so damn much because their chemistry as friends was great. I don't mind that it became canon at the end, but I preferred them as just friends. :/ They woulda made cool buddies.

Yea, don't get me wrong, they weren't terrible together or anything, and I think had I been prepared I would be able to acknowledge them together easier, but as is it shocked me so much that I didn't really buy it and feel very hesitant about it. Which is dumb, because again, IT IS DISNEY, THERE IS BASICALLY ALWAYS A ROMANCE, but idk, I just saw two people who cared for each other, who hadn't had close friends before (well, not counting Elsa and Sven) and were amazed by each other and how cool it was to find someone so supportive that they could connect with. For a while I genuinely thought Anna and Hans were going to end up together and even though I didn't get that pairing, I was conformed by the thought that Anna had an awesome bff by her side, ready to help her. (She still does, it's just different.)
