(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)I also really ship s7 Spuffy because those are two people who have grown, a lot, and although there's still a lot of baggage and fear between them, Spike came to care deeply for Buffy (I felt), and Buffy was around him/with him from a place that wasn't complete and utter self-loathing. And it felt more mature and calmer, after he got over the whole tearing his hair out and singing bit.
Idk I just never felt like Angel should have been more than a fling either, and the only way I can get past gritting my teeth and screaming at Buffy to get over him is because I know that he represents the First Love of teenagers in general, and that can be hard (especially when torn apart so violently as Angel and Buffy were, rather than running its course and petering out).

Oh, that so much.
I think Angel is a bit of a proto-Edward. Nowhere near as bad, of course, but there is a whole lot of creepiness to the being that much older than her (even just in appearance), especially when they start while she's still in high school (as opposed to Spuffy, which started proper when she was an adult), that gave it an uncomfortable veneer to me, but it's all very sweet and romantic.
Whereas Spike...is supposed to suck. So it kind of works? (Or, doesn't. Buffy just doesn't get nice relationships, really, but in terms of ones I prefer..)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)There's also the fact that Angel first saw her when she was in school, sucking on a goddamn lollipop. So fucking creepy. And I like Angel, but good god, he was a creep on Buffy and during his relationship with Buffy. Their whole relationship was skeevy.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-10 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)For all the creepy of Spuffy, at least he didn't treat her like she was fragile and let her be who she was. He fought beside her, not to protect her.
Mostly, all canon Buffy relationships were problematic, though in different ways.
