I'm going to be the person that does that thing that's really annoying.

Ever get checked for A.D.D.?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I get tired of music after an hour, so you do have some media browsing prowers. Also I've indulged in some Mary or Marty Sue scenarios when I was at school, but don't anymore, so it could pass?
I could watch a Tv season in a night... Makes you tired the next day. So it's not all good.
I don't have friends, idk why; in my opinion it's not connected to a person's hobbies.

sorry, misfire. It's a general answer to the secret and not a reply

I have ADD and this isn't really a thing I do. Please stop.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I also have ADD, and even though my symptoms don't manifest the same ways as the OP's do, I was still going to recommend that she get checked (and it looks like there are a few other ADD/ADHD people below who would agree).

Just because the condition doesn't affect YOU in a certain way, doesn't mean anon was wrong to suggest it. Peaople are different, even when they have the same diagnosis.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Lol because you're the only one in the world with ADD and your symptoms are the only relevant ones. Please stop.

I also have ADD, and my first thought was "That sounds like me when I've been off my meds for a long time." Short attention span =/= ADD, but the things the secret poster is describing DO sound like my symptoms.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I do, and it kinda describes me. (tis ADHD specifically, but still). These things aren't the same for everybody

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
And I have ADD and this IS a thing I do, so.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Good job trivializing the experiences of everyone with ADD who isn't you.

Do you also have Self-Centered Jackass Disease?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Do some concentration practices, unless you're actually content with your spare time going into mary sue fantasies and (pointless) online arguments, which is perfectly fine if you own up to it.

Uh...you can't maybe watch a little tv at a time (read a little at a time, etc), that way you don't get so bored with it? When I'm not TOO enthused about watching a show I save it for when I'm exercising. Then I have something to distract myself with and also finish it. If you have netflix on your mobile you could also watch things while fiddling around in the kitchen, or waiting for an appointment, or whatever. Just watch a little at a time; I guess it's better than nothing?

Seconding the recommendation that you get checked for ADHD. I myself was diagnosed with it this summer, at the advanced age of 35, after struggling with my attention span for years.

Person with off the charts ADHD (literally, my docs had a chart when I was a kid, I'm almost 30 now). If you aren't receiving help for it, you should. Doesn't have to be meds, but there are coping mechanisms to help. http://www.amazon.com/Delivered-Distraction-Getting-Attention-Disorder/dp/0345442318 was a book I read that helped me a great deal as an adult.

I still find it hard to sit through movies, but at least I can do TV shows now.

Not the OP but thanks for the book rec!

Short attention span, OP?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Can I recommend Doctor Who to you, nonny?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like you have ADHD, OP. Which can be a real nuisance especially when it comes to schoolwork.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
tl;dr

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 08:59 am (UTC)(link)

Have you tried audio books? It's a different type of experience from reading/watching, and you can do other things at the same time.

Also, I know Internet-diagnoses are tiresome, but the lack of attention or enjoyment in anything, combined with no friends or activities, sounds like depression to me, and I speak from experience.

There's nothing wrong with being an introvert and there's nothing wrong with daydreaming and fantasizing, but if it's bothering you, then maybe talk to someone about it.

One of my friends doesn't have ADD but another condition (don't know what it's called, sorry) that means that he literally can't concentrate on stuff. He'd be doing things like taking on and off his shoe because he got distracted by me chatting, or not taking off his jacket because he was talking.

On the other hand he was really good at focussing on computer games for hours at a time, so it was only for specific things. I know he's needed to get extra time for his uni courses and suchlike, so it definitely affects how he studies.

Does this sound like it might be similar to what you're experiencing? Can you ask a doctor about maybe getting a diagnosis or something? Because if you've got something similar to my friend it's possible to learn to cope with it.

If you do have ADD or think you might have, look into some coping strategies (there are books, and the internet, though a dubious source, may also help). The strategies may help you even if you don't have ADD, who knows!
