I prefer watching them to Jamie and Adam's faux competition. I think they get the more interesting myths too.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I really dislike how disaffected Jamie has seemed in the last few seasons. It seems like he doesn't want to be there with Adam a lot of the time. At least when they're competing on who can best approach or replicate a myth, he comes off as invested in the project. The scripted intro segments have always been poorly acted and mostly carried by the hosts' enthusiasm, and the J-A ones have more and more just been this formula:
*Adam enters in [fandom costume]*
Adam: :D!
Jamie: *blank, indifferent stare*
Adam: Let's do [fandom]-related myths!
Jamie: Yeah, whatever.

I think they're funny. And I like it when Kari's dogs show up.

I feel like you are missing the point of the show.

But eh, whatever floats your boat. I suppose I see how one could find them incredibly annoying. And they are kind of an unnecessary addition to the main team.

Grant's not so bad, but I definitely sometimes find the other two to be annoying. I do prefer the bits where you actually see them being competent at something (e.g., Kari welding) rather than being "personalities."

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if the guys are useless, but she is definitely just there to say the lines and be "the pretty girl" of the show.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
She's...the one who does all the math, which both of the guys have admitted they cannot do. Like, the shit that they do most likely would not work if she hadn't figured out all the physics and run the equations first.

But hey, I guess having boobs means she's just there to be pretty, amirite?

I haven't seen the show in quite a while, but I remember Kari generally being engaged with whatever was going on and being an active participant. I didn't really get an "just eye candy" vibe from her. Is my memory wonky?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, it's not. Just random misogyny floating around the 'net again. Nothing important to see in this secret.

Eye candy? Seriously? Fuck off.

I mean seriously, any time a woman manages to get included on any kind of tech or science show, it's a hailstorm of "she's just there to be eye candy." Fuck that and fuck you for saying it. Jesus fucking christ.

...I'm trying to figure out why/how the OP thinks she was "eye candy" when she spent a considerable portion of her time on the show preggers...

Different strokes for different folks. If you don't like them, you don't like them. I am getting kind of sick of people saying Kari's just there for eyecandy, though. She's the artist of the team; sculpting, welding and cheerful sadism are her greatest skills, just as building fuckable robots with flamethrower attachments are Grant's specialty and gathering data for his master's thesis in Studies in Wacky Self-Inflicted Injuries is Tory's department.

Anyway, what are everyone else's favorite build team projects? Mine is the non-dairy creamer fireball.

That is the best description of them.

I need to get back to watching Mythbusters.

A+ comment

...I can't think of a specific on right now, but I always remember getting a huge kick out of when the three stooges would be doing something for half the show like building a death machine or obstacle course of some kind, and then bring in Jaime and Adam all unawares to be the guinea pigs. They always looked so pleased with themselves.

...I also really liked the 'hot pepper cures' ep, not the least for the effects of the tequila cure.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
As I said to someone else, Kari is also the mathematician. She's the one who works out the physics and does the equations prior to them actually building shit.

The woman is quite obviously intelligent and adds something to the team.

lololol your description of Grant. That's sort of why he's tied with Adam as my favorite - that and his tweeting of his Tony Stark cosplay. XD But I really do love them all.

I dunno about projects so much, but I remember one of my favorite Mythbusters moments involved the trio testing... I think it was the thing about whether or not you could potentially just DUCK to survive going underneath a semi, and the top half of the car would be ripped off but the car would keep driving.

And it worked and they were all like "YEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH" but then the car kept driving to the point where it went up a ramp and OVER A WALL, and they were like "YEEEAAAAAAAOMG o_O OH CRAP OH CRAP OH CRAP" The looks on everyone's faces at that moment where :D turned to D: were just about the funniest thing I've ever seen on TV. XD

The episode where they were competing to make the distance-beheading martial arts weapon was also great. In part because I believe it was Grant who accidentally triggered the blades on his and we got one of those :D to D: moments again as he slashed his shirt to pieces.

....hm. I actually feel the opposite, I prefer the Power Trio to Adam and Jamie.

If by eye candy, you mean that Kari is hot, smart, competent, and is a badass even while pregnant, then sure. :)

I love all the characters on this show TBH. I have even written fanfic! LOL And one of the best end of the world fanfics I've ever read is a Mythbusters story.

Lots to love.

Sweetie, your misogyny is showing

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Either you're a troll or a sexist.

Either way, you suck.

(Protip: someone who utilizes applied physics; runs equations; sets up experiments; and contributes to the construction of devices is not simply eye candy. And if you think that she is, then you're having problems looking past the boobs, which makes you a shithead)
nyxelestia: Rose Icon (Default)

...but isn't that the point?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-03-16 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, yes, science, still the main point of the show and why I watch it. But the fact that everyone has a 'quirky persona' and does a lot of inane babbling and such - isn't that like half the appeal of the show right there? o.O

Not even gonna touch the bullshit "eyecandy" comment. -_-

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I see your point, and I see the point of other people here. She DOES do stuff, she does math, she builds, and she is, as a person, a kick ass competent mythbuster in her own right.

But, you're right, and I wish people would give you credit, that especially lately, a lot of the stuff that's made it to screen has cast her in fanservicey ways, which downplay her abilities in favor of looking cutesy.
