Eye candy? Seriously? Fuck off.

I mean seriously, any time a woman manages to get included on any kind of tech or science show, it's a hailstorm of "she's just there to be eye candy." Fuck that and fuck you for saying it. Jesus fucking christ.

It says a lot about who the people who say those things think is watching the show and who it's intended for. They don't want to believe the woman is never not eye candy because that would mean the show isn't created solely for them and they have to share it with a bunch of different people. (Alternatively, if they don't need female eye candy, they want to believe that's the sole reason for a woman to be on a show so they have something to be mad about.)

I think you're overreacting, but to be honest... yeah. IA. Women just get called that because they are women, regardless of whether there is any actual fanservice going on.

I really don't see how that was an overreaction tbh. Seriously, fuck the people who instantly cry "JUST THERE FOR FANSERVICE" whenever a woman shows up.

Dunno, I guess I'm uncomfortable with people saying "fuck you" to others. Like, if they seriously fucked up, then yes. But this is just words. Calling women eye candy regardless of whether they ARE eye candy is shitty and sexist, but it doesn't really mean that the person who does it is a bad person. A sexist=!=bad human being, as everyone with good but conservative parents/grandparents/relatives knows.

And I am not okay with saying "fuck you" to people who are comparatively decent. "Fuck these views", yeah. "Fuck these people", no.

Well in that case, isn't "fuck you" just words too?
dreemyweird: (murky)

[personal profile] dreemyweird 2014-03-16 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but "fuck you" feels really aggressive and personal. "Women are there just to be eye candy" is neither.

I'm not trying to tell others how to react, it just makes me cringe a little.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-17 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Late to the party, but as a woman? I find "Women are there just to be eye candy" WAY more aggressive and personal than "fuck you".

The latter is just a generic insult. The former is telling me my place in the world. I would rather have all the "fuck you"s in the world.

not saying your reaction is wrong (especially not knowing your gender), just saying there are other sides.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Why was that an overreaction? It's a constant stream of sexist shite.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
preach

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Omg, all the people who said that about Black Widow in the Avengers.

And I remember on Australian telly, the gaming show where one of the annoying dudes got replaced with a woman. "Eye-candy!" Like, maybe, they were recognising that WOMEN LIKE GAMING TOO?

So fucking sexist. And couched as "feminism" which makes it even more enraging.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
We have a gaming show?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, "Good Game" on the ABC. It's a good 'un.

What time is it on, it sounds like something I should look into watching. :)

Fucking amen to this.

Yeah, this.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'm trying to figure out why/how the OP thinks she was "eye candy" when she spent a considerable portion of her time on the show preggers...

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
If by "considerable", you mean "a grand total of one full season (half pregnant, half on maternity leave)", then sure. O____o
