(Anonymous) 2014-03-17 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)I also dislike handwaving rationalizations like, "It's God's will" or "God works in mysterious ways", because they're non-explanations meant to shut down the conversation as well as the thought process behind it.

They explain those away in such a fashion that God's excused for allowing someone to break into your house and steal all your things, or for your best friend to be killed by a drunk driver. I don't like that inconsistency. It's easier for me to buy the concept that there is no God rather than there's a God, but he doesn't care and/or won't act on your behalf at all.
