Funny, those are the reasons I call myself a feminist. Can't let the crazies ruin all the work prior feminists did.

Well, too bad. They are. Slowly but surely chipping away at the image of the feminist movement. And they will continue to because a lot of feminists seem to just ignore their behavior instead of calling them out.

And then all you cunts will be barefoot and pregnant and back in the kitchen where you sluts belong.

The grammar in this sentence annoys me so much. At least say "And then all you slutty cunts will be barefoot and pregnant and back in the kitchen where you belong." The way you have it makes it look like the cunts and the sluts are different subjects.

lol

I wanna call you slutty!anon, but there's better name out there.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
you're obviously trying really hard but its very uninspired

Oh, no, I can't go barefoot in the kitchen now! I dropped a jar because my delicate weak lady hands couldn't open it, and my female nervous system is simply too strained to sweep up. :'( Thank goodness my strong, manly husband will come home to fix everything for me.

So, your solution, instead of being among those who call them out and encouraging others to call them out, is to just...throw up your hands and give up?

I see this phrasing in a lot of different contexts, and it always seems unreal to me. Want to hate on Christians and not be called a bigot? Complain that reasonable Christians "don't call out" fundies. Want to hate on Republicans? Complain that reasonable Republicans "don't call out" extremists. Hell, I once saw this leveled at Muslims in relation to Al Qaeda! It's quick and easy--all you have to do is ignore the people who have called out, are calling out, and will continue to call out the people they're ashamed to be associated with.

Let's not forget that by the time people have been feminists or Muslims or Republicans long enough to realize there are extremists who aren't just strawmen made up to form a fallacious argument, they've usually realized that they can't change someone who doesn't want to change. Not to mention that they still have to fend off arguments from anti-feminists and anti-Muslims and anti-Republicans about how wrong they are; they're too tired to then have a go at their own side when sometimes, those people are the only ones who will let them vent their frustrations.

I'm starting to wonder, actually, about how many extremists are actually just venting on the internet. I know I've made more than one "kill all rapists" blog post in fits of frustration.

This is a good point, why it is so difficult to change someone who does not want to change. I would like to try so hard when I was younger, and sometimes it seems like it worked. But at the end of the day, what I got mostly for my efforts was a lot of stress and heartache .

It is sad to think that there are some people who can not change, but there are. The older I get, the more I realize that it is important to choose which of these people to fight with, since they are so stressful. Usually this means combating extremists who have named you an enemy, instead of the extremists in your own group.
