If you would be so kind as to search for feminism and social justice on the internet, you'd probably understand why there are so many celebrities trying to move away from labeling themselves femininsts (Lily Allen, Lady Gaga, Madonna, et al). That shit is cray cray. The loudest feminist demographic is a bunch of fucking mental misandrists seeking to elevate women while simultaneously ignoring the inequalities faced by men.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-18 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why I don't call myself a feminist. Fuck that. I don't want to be associated with those psychos. And since Tumblr seems to embrace them, I expect we will see that insane mindset become more and more common.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
And you in no way want an excuse not to give a shit. Sure.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Who says I don't give a shit? You don't have to call yourself a feminist to participate in changing the world. I vote for bills to help women, I donate towards causes that help women, I support women with great ideals. But I am not a feminist.

The important thing to understand is that the loudest people have no actual influence beyond the ability to be loud. If anything, their greatest contribution has been in the service of sexism, allowing people who have a vested interest in inequality to say "The people who loudly protest inequality are batshit; therefore, everyone who talks about inequality should shut up." It's like trying to argue religion based on Jack Chick.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well no. They have the ability to make your movement seem like a joke. Which can be very detrimental to the movement. Not only does it make outsiders not want to support or join, the loud assholes slowly convert young, impressionable into their asshole belief system. They eventually infect new people and the insanity is passed.

An example of the loud assholes who are getting attention: http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/horror-mob-of-topless-pro-abort-feminists-attacks-rosary-praying-men-defend

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's my OTHER pet peeve! Atheists who try to argue against religion based on Jack Chick! Seriously wish I was joking!

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Funny, those are the reasons I call myself a feminist. Can't let the crazies ruin all the work prior feminists did.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, too bad. They are. Slowly but surely chipping away at the image of the feminist movement. And they will continue to because a lot of feminists seem to just ignore their behavior instead of calling them out.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
And then all you cunts will be barefoot and pregnant and back in the kitchen where you sluts belong.

So, your solution, instead of being among those who call them out and encouraging others to call them out, is to just...throw up your hands and give up?

I see this phrasing in a lot of different contexts, and it always seems unreal to me. Want to hate on Christians and not be called a bigot? Complain that reasonable Christians "don't call out" fundies. Want to hate on Republicans? Complain that reasonable Republicans "don't call out" extremists. Hell, I once saw this leveled at Muslims in relation to Al Qaeda! It's quick and easy--all you have to do is ignore the people who have called out, are calling out, and will continue to call out the people they're ashamed to be associated with.

Wrong! Please grow a brain cell and start again.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Add in the fact that a lot of them are downright gross about trans issues and yeah. That's why I don't call myself a feminist.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Aww... is the tranny feeling left out?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh hush. You are not even being edgy. You are so obviously trying to start wank, it is embarrassing.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Or you know, how many of them seem to have beliefs about sex that are downright puritan. "Oh, BDSM? Yeah that is just abusive. Even if you consent to it. That is totally abuse. And you have been programmed to like it." "Oh, you like to be spanked sometimes? The patriarchy has made you think you want to be hurt and abused."

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Not just trans* issues; non-white and non-middle class issues, as well.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
And add non-American to the list.

lol, what even is this comment. you sound.. deranged.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Gretchen! Stop trying to make misandry happen!

IOW there's no such thing. And if you don't think feminism addresses the inequities faced by men, you're blinded by your desperate need to assume victimhood status. I suggest you do better research. Start by Googling Patriarchy Hurts Men Too, an idea addressed in feminist discussions so often it's frequently abbreviated to PHMT.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahahahahahahahahaha. No. Feminism doesn't. In fact, feminism goes out of the way to make life more terrible men. Start by gooling "The Duluth Model" which means that in any case of domestic violence the man is automatically assumed to be the aggressor (though studies have shown that men and women engage in equal amounts of domestic violence).

Or the time feminist protested the existence of a men's shelter so much, it was eventually forced to close its doors.

Or when feminists in India forced the government to define rape as only male on female. Or how in the US some states till define rape as only male on female.

I can go on.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
da

How does feminism have anything to do with how some states only define rape as male on female rape

What crazy shit are you smoking, anon? o.O

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Because struggling for equal rights and being owed the same basic human dignity as men = elevating women above men.

Women have only been on "equal" standing for about 50 years after literally centuries of not even being considered people and men are already whining that women have too many privileges. lol MRA's.
