Re: How could MH370 have happened?

I laughed at 7. That is just so Hollywood.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't quite say it makes me *angry* but it's a very obvious, tired, contrived plot-twist, and it has the stink of the shark on it. Too soap opera-ish and melodramatic, and a pretty lazy move on the part of the writers.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
If it meant that nobody would ever have to see "do the frick frack" again, I would start all my IM conversations with *glomp* for the rest of my life.

Re: Character you are like vs character you wish you were like

Star Trek DS9: Ezri. I love her to death and am happy to identify with her, for the most part. But I wish I was more relaxed and confident like Jadzia.

...or Garak. Charming, mysterious, dangerous, and able to terrify people while being polite about it. Jadzia's probably a better aspiration, but Garak's traits are great to daydream about having.

Doctor Who: full of ridiculous shit!

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Doctor Who is full of ridiculous fanfiction. It's one of those shows that is full of preposterous ideas. What matters is the execution, in order for us (as adults) to buy it or not. I've seen diehard fans who will defend the most ridiculous shit come apart if they don't buy this week's episode's ridiculous shit.

Really, think about all the ridiculous shit Doctor Who pulls off. Think about it. Take apart your average episode. You're a fan if you buy the ridiculous shit more than you don't. The execution of this one was clearly lacking for you.

Most people bought the extreme fanfiction that was "Human Nature", because it was done very well.

Are you from an anime?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'm the opposite. I love shipping(slash) in fanfic but not in canon. I hate seeing a series that has an interesting setting focus not on that setting and the adventures therein but on the godawful drama of romance and relationships and sexing and crap like that.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, it works for me sometimes, and other times it doesn't. Really depends on how it's written, and how many seasons the show has under its belt.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Have you seen Royals with Sad Clown?

Also love Blurred Bynes by DWV (drag queens).

No

Re: Thoughts on Bela?

So they're not familiar with the show, but they can say the name isn't spelled right. Gotcha.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Just because someone's female doesn't mean they don't deserve to be shit upon.

Re: Who do you blame?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Generally the writer, because generally the characters I dislike are poorly written. In fact, some have good traits and that makes it even worse, because I can tell I'd be enjoying them if they weren't being written so abysmally. But then, I don't really know if this counts as character hate/dislike, because I can grow to like them if I can find fandom portrayals that are handled better than canon.

there's plenty of characters I really like who are horrible people, but they are still horrible people who are interesting to watch/read about, so if I hate them it's more love-to-hate.

I had my name on a list at the animal shelter for them to call me if they got any ferrets in. One day in 2007, they gave me a call, but when I got there the ferret had already been adopted, so I figured since I was there, I might as well look around. I thought it couldn't hurt to see what kind of dogs they had, because I am a moron. I soon came across this asshole in a kennel by himself, staring up at me and giving me the saddest little guilt-tripping dachshund-face I'd ever seen:

Because I'm a sucker, I brought Sokka home with me the next day, and my floors have never been the same, but that's okay because he's really cuddly and lets me dress him in stupid outfits for photographic purposes.

The next year, I was at a yard sale and they had this big cage full of 3-month-old kittens. I asked if they had any females, and the lady pointed to one at the back and opened the cage door so I could reach in and pick her up. I never got a good look at her, though, because the second that door was opened out popped this little fucker right into my arms, whereupon he instantly started purring and headbutting me:

Again, because I'm a sucker, that was that. Maxwell remains a clingy, needy little mama's boy who still likes to pop out and headbutt me at random.

The moral of the story is that I am very easily manipulated by cute things.

That literally happened in a Neal Stephenson book IIRC.

Awesome.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Um, yeah, I can imagine this happening. Well, it's one way to justify feeling different from your real world peers, even if you're straight and cis as an arrow.

It's still fucking sexist/essentialist.

Obvs, gize. 'Cause the Hunger Games is the only book-to-movie that's ever been successful.
