I'd kill for them actually exploring the differences with benders and non-benders (like those mafia dudes that used firebending to threaten people), and why that gave the Equalists the reasons to do what they did, instead of that getting dropped like a hot potato.

Psst! If you want to see how such a storyline would play out in the hands of competent writers? Get your hands on the new Thundercats series if you haven't already. Or if you want to kick it old school, there's a little-known series called ExoSquad from the early 90s.

Yep, the new Thundercats series addressed really interesting issues. I was surprised.

I know right? What amazed me the most is that I did NOT see that twist with Pumyra coming, and I'm usually very good at spotting those kinds of reveals. Sorta like FF7 in that it just seems like messy characterization, but the reveal makes it clear that it was deliberately messy, for good reason.
