Plenty of wine is extremely sweet. Dessert ports and sherries immediately spring to mind, but one of my favorite wines is a good sweet Reisling. Also zinfandel tends to be crap in my experience.

...Wine is like whiskey, honestly. You can find a peaty one, a sweet one, a smoky one, or a sour one or one that's a mix of those flavours. But with wine you can find one that spicy, sweet, fruity, sour, bitter, smoky, metallic, piney... they're all just so different that you can't try one and dismiss it.

Thanks for the recs. I'll have to try one some time. I admit part of it is that it takes a lot for me to even feel the effects. I'd usually rather drink something where I can be pleasantly buzzed with just a few of drinks rather than having do drink a lot.

That's why I listed port and sherry. They are what is known as fortified wines, aka. wines that have spirits added into them to increase alcohol content (and thus shelf life).

You can easily find a good fortified wine that has a alcohol content of 20-30%.

+1 recommendation for port! I don't like the bitter woody wines, I mostly would just drink the sweet pink muscadine wines made locally, but port is a lovely treat. It also makes me feel posh, lol.

Don't forget Ausleses, Berenausleses, Trockenberenausleses, and the Holy Grail of sweet German wines, Eiswein. Also Hogue Vinyards makes a Late Harvest Reisling that, depending on the year, has been as good as many Ausleses I've tried.

Everyone is into the tanic, tongue-drying reds these days. I feel so alone in my love for German-type sweet white wines.

You're not alone! Those are almost the only kind I like. I first had wine in German wine country.

Oh I haven't forgotten them, but they're probably not exactly the sort of wines I would recommend to someone new to wine drinking (who is also looking for something with a bit more punch).

I also love sweet whites, but you really have to get a little more into the food and wine pairings to appreciate an Auslese properly, I find. Something like a Port is a perfect aperitif/digestif, and therefore a bit more approachable.
