I wonder what kids think of them. I think they are super creepy, but if kids like them, then that's okay, they are the ones these things are made for.

lolwhut?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-27 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
These.... aren't made for children.

But they are. Those are from Precure live stage shows. You know, Precure, a show for little girls.

Are the stage shows intended for the child audience? TV Tropes claims Precure's schtick is to try to appeal to both the young female demographic and the adult male demographic simultaneously.

Kinda like Miley Cyrus and just about every other late teen based pop group.

Main demographic is young females, but there's a periphery demographic of adult males, which tends to happen with magical girl stuff for reasons.

It's kind like how Pokémon's aimed at kids, but has a fairly large older fanbase too.

Edit: The anon above me has a better comparison.

Remember everyone, the media you are interested in is never interested in you. It is interested in your money. The object is never to give you something you enjoy, that is merely the by-product. The object is targeting people willing to pay for whatever it is being produced. If they can hit an adult, teen, and pre-teen market all in one go, then by god they'll do it.

Just look at Britney Speers back when she released that song where she was dressed like a school girl. pre-teen and teen girl market targeted with the music, adult male playboy reader market targeted also. Money was raked in. These Japanese things are no different. The target market is still "people willing to pay", without fear or favor.

Yes, and Japanese mothers like to spam online boards with "how disgusting, there was a man at the Precure stage show today and he didn't have a child with him, must have been a pervert".

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, most of the men watching it sexualize the little girl characters and fap to porn of them.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
As long as they paid for their admission and bought some merch then they are as legitimate a target demographic and as legitimate attendees as the little girls and their moms.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I have no horse in this race at all but how does paying for admission and buying a piece of merch make someone a "target demographic".

You do know what "target" means, right?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Target demographic = Any and all people who have money and are willing to spend it on your product.

Kids aren't the only intended audience. :(
