Suppose I wanted to start reading Cable & Deadpool. Is there a particular run people would recommend?

I already know Deadpool a little through Thunderbolts, but have never read anything with Cable.

You can jump straight into their series without having read anything else about either of them! The entire run has been collected into eight TPBs.

Yes, and what drives me truly crazy is dearth of Cable/Deadpool fics and the recent proliferations of Spiderman/Deadpool fics, based on... I don't know what? RPF between the actors?!

I have no idea what is going on. I blame Tumblr (possibly unfairly) and kids nowadays (probably a sign of my senility).

Aw, Cable/Deadpool was probably one of my first comic ships. This secret is funny, but there is some truth to it. Their relationship wasn't exactly healthy, but they did have some serious manlove going on, and their odd friendship was kind of touching. (You could also describe the end of the series and some other moments as romantic, actually, without really having to place the shipping goggles too firmly on.)

Exactly! It's as if they were each other's only weakness: the ultra macho Marvel hero mold they both fit in very well just doesn't admit to true, illogical friendship (or love) they showed each other.

I'll admit that Deadpool's wacky sense of humor, ultra violence and job as a mercenary makes it look as if he is not too heroic a character, but it is indeed touching to see his consistent respect and care for Cable throughout their long and weird history.
