Honestly, it drives me nuts. I understand that it's a reaction to a lot of women getting bullied/excluded/judged for being feminine as kids, but it just seems like they're trying too hard.

I think there's like a double edged sword going on here.

Well, maybe it's more like a triple or quadruple edged sword.

Because like, I DO think that things that are seen as 'girly' are made fun of, especially for younger kids. And then even as adults, feminine things are seen as less important.

BUT the other side of that is that by being feminine, you're fitting into the social norms that makes it easier to navigate society.

Gah, I'm being really confusing right now. I guess my point is that by being feminine, you're at an advantage in some respects because you're fitting into the exterior mold that the patriarchy has created, but by doing so, you're also being seen as weaker.

Yeaaaaah, that's why I tend to cringe away from most "Femininity is POWER! GIRL POWER YEAH! I step on men with my high heels!!" It all feels very try hard and almost cartoony. I just can't take it seriously. And it certainly doesn't empower me.
Especially since I'm not really feminine. I wear dresses sometimes, but I don't really wear makeup or high heels or what. Don't have a problem with it, but it's not my thing. I don't think a lot of Tumblr feminists realize that not all people are empowered by the same things.
