Re: Questions there's never a good time to ask.
(Anonymous) 2014-04-05 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)Do English people eat what's left of the wedding cake at the christening of the married couple's first baby? I saw that on a TV show but this sounds crazy. Like what are your wedding cakes made of, English people?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-05 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)You put the cake in the freezer.

Less technical: http://www.sarsonline.org/resources-stats/reports-laws-statics
For comparison, rape's apparently more common in the UK. http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2013/jan/10/sex-crimes-analysis-england-wales (Possibly related: http://news.sky.com/story/819702/rape-awareness-survey-how-far-is-too-far)
Re: Questions there's never a good time to ask.
(see also the fact that our rate of violence against the person is higher - it is, but not nearly to the same extent as it initially appears, because for example a robbery with only the threat of force, would cunt as violence against the person in the UK but not the US due to the way we each measure it)
Re: Questions there's never a good time to ask.
Are you sure of that? According to Wikipedia, the U.K. does not legally define any act perpetrated by a woman as rape, nor does it legally define penetration with an object other than a penis as rape. (These can be crimes, but they're charged under other statutes.)
Re: Questions there's never a good time to ask.
(aware that assault by penetration etc is different, most statisitcs I've seen include them together but apparently not the home office, shit gets complicated)
But for a direct comparison

The US is just like everywhere else - there are plenty of assholes to go around, but most folks are decent people.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 01:55 am (UTC)(link)The only wedding cake tradition I know is keeping the top part of your wedding cake and freezing it so that you can eat it on your first anniversary.
